Client devices have been updating tonight with version 9.3.4 however the release notes are not available nor does the upgrade centre even list 9.3.4

When will the release notes be made available please?

Now the upgrade center displays 9.3.4 as the latest version, but release notes are still not there. It is usual for quite a long time now: the release notes do not appear in time on the web...

And in the meantime my USB Ethernet dongles do not work anymore, so I lost my internet and guest interface with the upgrade. The type of the dongles is TrendNet TU2-ET100, and they did work well with all the previous versions of Control.
As a result I cannot upgrade at my clients as most of them also use USB Ethernet dongles for internet interfaces, so if anything goes wrong, I have just loose the connection to Control totally.

Would it be possible to leave the drivers in the old versions there, to maintain backward compatibility?

Hi

We did not remove any drivers in Kerio Control 9.3.4. In fact just checked the asix driver is still there. Can you double confirm from your end that it's not another issue, please?

Hi Ian,

I can also confirm that the upgrade to 9.3.4 from 9.3.3 removed my USB Ethernet Dongle and rendered it useless. Everything I tried failed to get the Dongle to come back up. So I had to immediately downgrade my Kerio Control box to 9.3.3 and the dongle immediately came back up. So something has definitely changed between the two versions. Can you ask your engineering team to re-check what has changed?

Thank you for your help.
Simon

I will confirm that i also lost functionality of USB ethernet dongles.

The dongle that was working but stopped working is a StarTech USB 3 dongle.
https://www.startech.com/Networking-IO/usb-network-adapters/ USB-3-to-Gigabit-Ethernet-NIC-Network-Adapter~USB31000S

I also tried two other dongles I know I have used on Kerio software firewalls: An old school Apple USB 100 Mb dongle, and an AmazonBasics dongle I have had laying around and have used on test boxes.

This is the old Apple USB adapter that also stopped working.

I have now raised a ticket with support #2128857 regarding the USB Ethernet LAN Dongles issue.

Hello,
I have found this thread and it helped me a lot in finding what the real problem is in Kerio Control version 9.3.4 with USB Net drivers.
I am 99% sure that the the Asix.ko driver (and I may be all other USB Net drivers in lib\modules\3.16.0-k5-kerio-amd64\kernel\drivers\net\usb\) for USB Ethernet LAN Dongle in version 9.3.4 is not compiled correctly for this version and when booting, it gives error that it is not compatible, leading to these error messages:
[ 4.952225] ax88179_178a: disagrees about version of symbol usbnet_set_msglev el
[ 4.952229] ax88179_178a: Unknown symbol usbnet_set_msglevel (err -22)
[ 4.952239] ax88179_178a: disagrees about version of symbol usbnet_write_cmd
[ 4.952241] ax88179_178a: Unknown symbol usbnet_write_cmd (err -22)
[ 4.952257] ax88179_178a: disagrees about version of symbol usbnet_write_cmd_ async
[ 4.952259] ax88179_178a: Unknown symbol usbnet_write_cmd_async (err -22)
[ 4.952269] ax88179_178a: disagrees about version of symbol usbnet_get_msglev el
[ 4.952271] ax88179_178a: Unknown symbol usbnet_get_msglevel (err -22)
and so on...

Solution 1:
Running "modprobe -f asix" after startup starts the driver, but gives warning that the kernel is tainted: "kernel taint on loading module linux", as the -f starts the driver ignoring the version.
After many tries, I still have not found a way to automatically start the "modprobe -f asix" command while booting, as it will be full working solution for Kerio Control version 9.3.4.
Solution 2:
Reverting to Kerio Control version 9.3.3, where the asix.ko driver (and maybe all other USB Net drivers) are correctly compiled for the version and are running perfectly.

Hope this helps everyone that looks at this thread, as I lost 2 days in trial and error to understand why Asix USB Net drivers do not work correctly in Kerio Control version 9.3.4.

Also, I hope that someone from GFI also looks at this thread and prevent this problem from happeing in next versions of Kerio Control.

I can confirm that the 9.3.5 release DOES NOT fix the USB dongle issue.
