Hi there,

TL;DR: Need alternative for Kerio Connect on macOS because the old license is 32bit only and won't work on an M1 Mac. It needs to be able to download pop3 and relay via the ISP's smtp server (authenticated).

So I have a buddy who has an ancient Mac mini Server (2010) with a Kerio Connect license whose maintenance was paid up until 2010.

The server happily queries 2-3 pop3 mailboxes from the ISP and then distributes these mails locally, archiving them in the process. Ports are opened in the gateway and mails are being synced to clients (some iPhones, Macs and tablets) via dyndns on a dynamic DSL line. Basically the smallest setup you can have for a self hosted mailserver.

My buddy worries that the Mac mini might die eventually (it's from 2010 after all) so he purchased a brand new Mac mini. It's a M1 (Apple Silicon) machine so it can only emulate 64bit macOS software, the 2010 Kerio Connect 7.1.4 version of course is 32bit so I can't install it.

The license model of Kerio Connect since they were purchased by GFI is terrible, he would need GFI Unlimited which has a minimum of 10 seats which is around 400$ per year in my neck of the woods. He would be happy to pay a one time upgrade fee to a 64bit capable KC version.

So what I basically need is a macOS compatible mailserver solution (calendar/address book would be nice, too) that is capable of downloading from a pop3 server and relaying with authenticated smtp to the ISPs server again.

He wants a solution with local mails and already regrettably purchased the mac mini so a) M365 and b) a Linux/Windows machine with vintage OS and vintage install of the old KC is out of the question.

Does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks!
