Hi All,
Wonder if anyone has any experience in a staggered migration to another host ? Kerio connect >>> Exchange online.
I am familiar with using tools to migrate data to a new host but not in a delayed roll out.
Would the answer be in EMAIL domain forwarding ? We would like to move say 10 users one week then a further 10 the next - I am fine with the actual migration of data however im not certain of the kerio settings to allow this ?
Confused by the client settings IF forwarding an email from one host to another and mx record setup, case would be kerio connect to exchange online.
As I believe using smtp.office365.com would be possible and delivery might work if "the recipient was not found in this domain forward the message to another host"
Any advice would be most welcome !

I'm about to embark on this for ~45 accounts. I'm using imapsync for migrating email and a tool from Sumatra, which I'm currently testing, to migrate calendars, contacts and notes.
Both of them will allow you to migrate in the background, keeping both systems in synch, then you disable incoming data on your Kerio server, perform the final migrations and make the destination server live.
Imapsync has been tested over a number of years (it's what I used to migrate to Kerio ages ago). The principals of Sumatra have a large amount of experience migrating to M365.
You don't indicate how many accounts you need to move, but I've found (and a number of my peers locally agree) that a single cutover is far less work than the staggered approach. The advantages of using the tools I've noted are, if, for some reason, something is amiss on the new server, you can very quickly revert back to Kerio and debug the issue while keeping the destination in synch.

We have 50+ Accounts, Im comfortable using an online or offline service to move the actual data - Its more the idea of how to perform it in a staggered manner.
20 user first pass migration (older than 60 days data) Second pass migration (most of the rest of the data) Final all data for the 20 users - Removal of those users 20 from Kerio connect - Configure those users to use Exchange online or 0365 perhaps using smtp.office365.com and outlook.office365.com then set the SMTP options in kerio...
Those users would then send using authed SMTP from smtp.office365.com and RECEIVE using the existing kerio mailhost using the below setup (link below) ? Its not conventional but Im looking primarily for advice on the SMTP side of using two hosts for SENDING mail and ONE receiving until complete cutover including the MX setup for such a situation...

Kinda off the top of my head:
- Create all the accounts in O365
- use IMAPSYNC to do a 'baseline' copy
- set up the domain in Kerio Connect to forward mail to unknown recipients to O365
- While IsTrue(Users to Migrate)
-- Export calendars & personal contacts to a PST file
-- Set user up to connect to O365 vs. KConnect
-- 'Catch Up' IMAPSYNC
-- remove user account from KC (for safety, do not let it delete the message store, so you can easily revert)
-- Import PST file to O365
- End While
- after last user has been migrated
-- change MX record to point to O365
- miller time

Hi Bud,
Thanks that is similar to what I understood also, the bit im stuck on is :
Set user up to connect to O365 vs. KConnect - User still needs to use example.com domain to send from...
MX wise im not sure how the O365 client from the same domain would be sending and whether or not set up the domain in Kerio Connect to forward mail to unknown recipients to O365 works with O365 ! ....
