I had a very similar problem with some Ricoh copiers. At first I was just allowing them to relay without authentication by putting their IP addresses in the "local client" within the "IP address group" page. After a while I decided the copiers should be authenticating for security reasons. I had created a user in Kerio for the purpose and set the Ricoh copiers to use port 465 with encryption enabled. The scans to email kept failing with SASL authentication errors. After some testing an searching the forums I came across the advice that users authenticating from directory services OR users with their password stored in the SHA format need to login with plain text. I went back to my designated kerio copier user account and found that I had indeed enabled the SHA password format. No problem, i'll just uncheck it and all with be right. NOPE. I could be wrong but I get the feeling once the SHA option is checked off for a user, the password is forever stored in SHA format, because once I removed and re-created the user without the SHA password option checked, the emails started to authenticate with no problem.
Hope this helps someone out there.
