Hi Admins,

I have a great Problem with GFI Languard. We have Languard since a long time with different Versions.
Now we have Version 12.4, Built 20180706 on a Virtual Server 2008 R2 Standard, the Clients are Windows 7 X64 or 10 X64.
We have different Workgroups and VLANS, so we are working with local admin Accounts and a local Host File on the Server.

All is principle working (patching, Scanning, Agents, RDP, Remote Shutdown etc.), but we have a problem patching Systems with multible Patches or if the Patch is too big, than the patching are break with following error:
the service does not respond to the start or control request in time

I attach a snapshot.

We are using a SQLExpress Database.

Du you have any idea about this?

Thanks in advance, Andreas

Hi

Does this happen when you remediate a lot of patches in one batch or even if you remediate one patch at a time?

Hi Ian,

the Error is in both conditions.

2 to 4 Patches with every 3 MB most no problem, if the Files are bigger OR one Big file than the I receive the Error.

Hi Ian,

the Error comes at both conditions.

I can patch fron 2 to 4 Files with 5 MB without problems, but if I patch more or bigger files or one big very file (>50MB) its happened often, that the patch breaks.

Regards,
Andreas

I have a complement:

disabling of the Client firewall does not help, so its no problem of blocking ports?

there is no regularity.

I Try to patch 2 PCs (Windows 7 X64), first try with 2 little patches, both failed.
Second try wit 2 bigger patches (30 MB), one with succes, the other faild (GF1, TCP Port 1072 is free, disabling Firewall for testing without success).
Third try to patch with the both little patches, one with success and the other faild (GF2).

Very strange.

Any idea?

We have a 1GB Backbone and 100 MBit Clientnetwork without communication problems, but different VLans and Hardware Firewall.

What is the LanGuard deployment type?

With or without Agents?
Do you use relay service?

Also the client machines, are they well spec'ed or struggling with resources, disk, memory ...
What client AV do you have on the machines?

And these patches are Windows or 3rd Party apps?

Helle Ian,

all machines have agents, these scan all 3 Days to differnt times and days (to reach load distibution) and report results to the Languard server.
I have no automatic download or patching activate.

I patch only manual and have no relay server or client.

Normally they are not struggeling with resources (I have the same Problem at new PCs (new clean Win 10 Installation, clean start, no Program running)).

both Windows and 3rd. Party patches are with problems, I see no regularity.

Or Virus scanner is Trend Micro Office Scan

Because this is a 2008 Server running out of support from Microsoft I plan, to built a new Server 2016 and install a clean Version of Languard, but I try to solve these problem before upgrading or is it able, that these problem solved after Upgrade?
I dont know, if its a communication, Network, resource, Database or Languard Program error.
