We are trying to move an old mail archives 2012 server to an off site location. There will be no network access. I've been trying to configure gfi access using local account, but the option to use a local account doesn't seem possible. When I try to add a local account, the GUI returns user can't be found. I've tried both servername\username and.\username. Am I missing something? Can you use local accounts? Thanks

No only Active Directory users can be added.

This is perhaps an outdated post - is it possible to migrate away from Active Directory and use the GFI AD LDS implementation?

The latest versions of GFI Archiver support GFI Directory. Yes you can switch from Active Directory to GFI Directory
