If a message is rejected at first, but then later a message from the same sender is accepted, Gray listing may be at the root of it. Basically, with the first attempt, Gray Listing will respond "I'm busy, try later", and on subsequent attempts from that sender will accept the mail. It could be that the sending server interprets that first "I'm busy" response as a failure, rather than re-queuing the message for another attempt.

We had this problem when I migrated our domain in KC, and forgot to update our external Reverse DNS/PTR records with TimeWarner.
So we had a domain of Company-A.com. We had an alias of Company-B.com. My boss wanted to change our email domain to Company-B.com. So I needed to do the following...
-Change the server InternetHostName to Example.company-b.com
-Change the external TimeWarner DNS/PTR records to reflect that 24.93.41.125 is now Example.company-b.com
-Change the top DNS settings provide by Godaddy to reflect the same as TWC.
-Change the Microsoft Exchange Online Protection spam filter DNS settings to reflect the same.
I am not saying that this is your specific problem per say. But, if you have made any changes to your server name, ip address, or other, make sure your DNS settings were updated too.
