Swapping Virus Software on Server [message #132708] Mon, 07 November 2016 17:58 Go to next message

We have running Kerio Connect 8.5.3. We are using the Spam Filter, Sophos Virus software within Kerio and the Attachment filter is enabled and running in Kerio. We currently have McAfee running on the Kerio server with the firewall configured in McAfee.

I need to unload McAfee and load our current virus software, Vipre, on the server. I also have been setting the firewall on each of the servers themselves so I can do exceptions as needed. The server is older W2003 R2. Moving off of this soon.

So I want to know what I need to be concerned about when removing the old virus software, adding the new. Also, setting up the firewall on that server to make sure Kerio still run properly.

Are there directions for these items or links I can follow? I have done searches in Google and in the Kerio Connect forums.

Thanks.

Unless your mailserver is also doing file server duty, I'd recommend not putting any external AV on it. If you must, be sure to configure the AV to ignore the Kerio mail store.

Which firewall ports are required is pretty well documented in http://kb.kerio.com/1153 and http://kb.kerio.com/1239

From everything I have read in the last day or two, most recommend you have AV software on all servers BUT tailor it to the server. In this case an email server and do as you recommend and not scan the mailstore.

Is there anyone from Kerio who can give me any other pointers on how to best set this up for performance? I want the server to have AV and I can setup a policy for this server only and configure it however I need to for Kerio to function at its best.

Thanks.
