Hi all,
After some advice in regards to moving Kerio to another HyperVisor.
We inherited a site running amongst other things a VMWARE Debian distro running Kerio (Version 8.5.0)(4416))
Having come from a purely Exchange background I have to say Kerio is very easy to use and does the job for the client so we are going to keep them with Kerio long term. The site currently has 41 mailboxes and a valid software maintenance contract
We need to move it to another hypervisor and have moved to our preferred setup of Hyper-V all old VMWARE machines have been migrated and I am just left with Kerio to migrate.
Just after some advice as to peoples preferred setups and the process for migration. I'm still unsure of what OS to use - we have a spare Server 2012 R2 VM and I am leaning towards using that as a Kerio server but am open to ideas from people who use it more often than me...

I had to do the same thing when we moved from XenServer to Hyper-V. We just built the new mail server, copied the config file and the mail store over to the Hyper-V VM. to avoid a lot of downtime, if you have a large mail store, you can use a sync utility to copy the data over while the original store is still running. After an initial sync, we shut down KC on the old server and do one last sync overnight. Once that's done, we just start let the new server onto the network after turning off the old server. It sounds way more complex than it really is. KC is super simple to manage. Nothing like Exchange.

If you can support it, our experience strongly recommends putting kerio on Linux (we use Debian here). We are on VMWare with a fairly large install (350+ users, 1.3TB mail store), and the performance is MUCH better with Linux. That said, I'm not sure what influence (if any) using Windows as the hypervisor will have.
+1 for McIrish's comments about doing a simple sync between the servers to migrate. it's the only way we could do it without incurring several DAYS of downtime.
