In the SMTP Server Relay Control settings, I have checked:

Allow relay only for Users authenticated through SMTP for outgoing mail

In the SMTP Server Security Options tab, I have checked in Additional Options:

Block if client's IP address has no reverse DNS entry (PTR)

Occasionally, a problem occurs when people are traveling and trying to connect from various hotel or other public networks, that the lack of the PTR record causes problems (unable to send due to lack of reverse dns type error).

Generally, I have laptops and other systems outside the office configured to use port 465 with SSL and authentication for SMTP sending. Should that be updated to port 587 with SSL and authentication?

Thanks.

Cheers,
Jon

Yes, users with authentication should always use SMTP submission service ( port 587) because it is less strict with the requirements.
