Outlook 2016, Apple Apps or Kerio Connect Web - Apple Systems [message #128150] Wed, 24 February 2016 22:31 Go to next message

I have multiple on-premise installations and have been supporting KERIO Connect for over 10 years in all Apple setups. I'm at a crossroad right now due to (mostly) unending calendar issues.

TL:DR
In a nutshell - CALENDAR ISSUES - Apple calendar with Kerio Connect is unreliable and I want to know if Outlook 2016 or using only KC Web will solve my issues or do I need to move my clients to Hosted Exchange or Google Apps?

Full Rant:
All clients are setup the same way:
Generally between 10 - 50 email accounts, OS 10.10 Macmini Server with SSD mailstore. Kerio Connect v8.5.3 (none upgraded to v9 as I am concerned about removal of Old Webmail - which has saved my bacon more times than I can count), Client machines are generally iMacs running either OS10.10 or 10.11 (Fully updated) and ALL use the Apple applications when onsite (Apple Mail, Contacts and Calendar) or KC Web when offsite. Devices are iPhones and iPads all running iOS 9 and most are connected using Exchange but I have also tried CardDav, CalDav and IMAP.

The Calendar problem...
ALL of my clients have calendar issues of some sort almost on a daily basis - Repeating events and delegated calendars with attendees are the biggest pain point. Multitude of issues...change one part of a repeating event and it *might* send out the update and *might* delete the existing event and move it correctly or it *might* just leave a copy of the original and add the new one (now we have 2). It might notify everyone who is invited to a change that wasn't made with no way to - NOT NOTIFY. If you delete an event...it might delete and send a notification to the attendees or maybe not. I have seen multiple times where events just suddenly move 3 hours earlier in Apple Calendar but in KC they are fine. I have seen many instances of events that exist in KC that don't show up in Apple Calendar and Vice Versa. In all of these cases the only way I have been able to fix them has been by logging into the Old Webmail interface and "tweaking" the offending event. I know of no other way to delete or modify events and NOT NOTIFY everyone or to edit only one part of a repeating event. Apple Calendar always notifies and it *seems* the new version of KC does as well?. iOS devices...lol they are all over the place. I tell all of my clients to ONLY accept events from Apple Calendar or KC Web...never from the iOS device (even then I still might see 3 or 4 unaccepted events that WERE already accepted from the computer)

So those of you who primarily using KC in Apple environments - Is your calendaring reliable and what do you use for your clients (KC Web, Outlook, Apple Apps?) and with what success?

Any help, thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

No one's replied to this so I guess I'm the only one here who has these issues.

Update:
I have upgraded all of my clients from KC v8 to v9 but the issues continue and now I can't fix things by using the "classic" interface.

I actually missed your original post (not sure how), but, yes, I have occassional issues like you describe.

For calendaring, we've gone over to BusyCal across the board on Mac OS X. Better views & interface, more reliable, and very responsive support.

But., yes, invites and updates to recurring events are problematic in Calendar. Don't see those issues in BusyCal.

Hoping they port BC to iOS soon as that's the one place still with issues (and no good calendar solutions, IMHO).

Cheers,
Jon

we are in the same boat...my 2 cents;

we have been doing Kerio Connect for our clients for a ling time too, in all mac environments, and most of our clients are still on Kerio connect / Apple Mail / Agenda / Contacts combo but it's hard for Kerio to keep up with the fast changes Apple makes.

This compatibility issue is one of the biggest down-sides when using a system where the backend software (Kerio Connect) and the front-end software are not from the same creators.

Kerio Connect v9 seems pretty good and we are very happy with the new Bitdefender based anti-spam implementation in Kerio. (but has a few issues of its own in the first release, that im sure they will fix soon)

I would suggest tho to re-setup all your clients no that you upgraded to v9 using the Kerio Auto Config tool. (you might run into yet an other issue tho where Apple mail creates some weird "Outbox renamed" folder but oh well..something to keep you busy with Smile

We have a few clients on Google Apps, but the integration with Apple Mail / Agenda /Contacts is even worse..so that client has been using Googles own mail client....Chrome...and then everything works...but I hate the Gmail web interface (and Google in general). So i dont recommend this to our clients.

We also have a few clients on the Office365 (outlook.com) with Outlook 2016 combo...
we used to HATE outlook on the mac...but 2016 is looking to be the best Outlook for mac ever (but still has some child bugs on it's own)
and Office 365 is pretty slow in Europe. And managing exchange is more work then the super simple kerio connect I used to love so much...
