We've been using Kerio for a little over a month and I need some help with speeding up my backups. I have about 300GB of mail in my mailstore and the full backup is taking close to 24 hours to perform. I am writing my backups across a 1GB network to an EMC DataDomain. My incrementals are taking less than 10 minutes nightly.

More info would be really nice. What hardware specs has the server? If virtualized, what runs next to kerio and how is the hdd usage on the host?
On our Server (Raid 10, 4 SAS HDD / 15k s/min), Xeon E5504 2 Ghz, hyperv virtualized with 10 gb ram and 4 vcpu needs around 3 hours for 90 gb to backup to a hp microserver sata raid 5 raid over a 1 gb network, 4 min per ind. backup. (Server 2012 > Server 2012). No real I/O in the night on the raid.
I guess the problem lies with the server (CPU time for compression) OR with the EMC Store (slow). Maybe you should try how fast you can copy over CIFS to the emc box.

I had a 294GB mail store on two 2TB HDD's in raid 1. It was very slow, and the backups took around 16hours to another HDD in the same system. Just upgraded that to two Intel P3500 800GB SSD's in raid 1. Now the backup is down to 3.5 Hours. Hard Drive speed plays a big part in backup speed.

Yeah, you need a fast Network connection to the NAS, a fast writing NAS, a fast CPU AND fast HDD's. Kerio saves all mails as a single file. With two SATA HDD with 5200/7200 U/min the latency and speed is slow like hell. Also if someone accesses kerio or mobile stuff, it slows it down too.
If it's not for data storage like shared folders, where space > speed, you need to invest some money into a good server. It saves the money again by less waiting time. For Kerio with 10 ppl and some other services it should be at least a raid 1 with 2x 15k SAS HDD. And that on a real raid card, no software raid (that uses CPU to do the raid > less cpu for the compressing > slower). Better a Raid 10 with SAS HDD.
SAS still have a better performance / size / price ratio then SSD. But if nothing helps ... SSD.
That's why I asked about the more detailed specs :3
