Groups in Public Contacts replicating in Apple Address Book [message #106716]

I'm running KC 8.0.2 (updated about two months back), but this problem pre-dates that update.

Inside Apple Address Book (see enclosed file) both "Contacts", "Global Address List" & "My Contacts" are replicated multiple times, but not the same number for each (12, 11 & 4 respectively).

As I've added more people using Mail/iCal/Address Book these have started reproducing. How can I clean this up? And where should I edit the various public contact entries?

And how can I set Public Contacts to be read-only for most people?

Hi Jon,

Could you tell me which version of Kerio Connect you are running, and which devices & OS versions?

You set Public Contacts permissions by logging into the webmail as an admin user (Using the old webmail interface), and right-clicking on the Public Contacts.

Choose "Add".

Come down to Access Rights, and choose "All Users from Domain" as "Reader".

You can then grant different permissions to individual users, by adding them individually in the same way.

Thanks for the tip on permissions.

I'm running KC 8.0.2 currently.

We are running iPhones with iOS 6 & now 7. These mostly connect via ActiveSync, but I'm slowly converting them to IMAP/CalDAV/CardDAV.

Our desktops are running mostly Mac OS 10.6.8 with a couple of 10.7.5 units and a couple more on 10.8.5. Client software is mostly Entourage 2008 setup as Exchange, but also moving to Mail/iCal-Calendar/Address Book-Contacts on the desktop.

The problem I'm trying to solve is twofold: how did the groups get replicated and how to keep it from happening again. I think permissions is how to solve that second part, but I'd really like to know how it happened so that I can try to prevent it from recurring.

Hi Jon,

The first thing that I would recommend is that you update the server to v8.1.3.

However, you will still have some problems with iOS7 users, until we release v8.2 - which is expected shortly. The main problem surrounds public folders.

Similarly, make sure that the Mac clients are all running the latest version of Entourage 2008.

You may then have to empty the cache in Entourage on the user side.

Then remove the mobile devices through the webadmin interface and set them back up again.

As a last resort you may have to reindex the user's mailbox on the server; again this is done through the webadmin interface.

If you still have problems after that, I would recommend that you open a support ticket so that we can assist you more closely.

As to why this has happened - probably a mix of varying versions of server and client software, at a guess.

I have run into a problem with the permissions.

The public Contacts reside inside the Public Folders folder. I want people to be able to create public folders as needed for sharing of emails, so I assigned all users as Administrator for Public Folders. That entry is inherited by public Contacts, even though there isn't a checkbox for "Set also to all subfolders now" for Access Rights for the Public Folders.

Since it is inherited, I can't change the rights on the public Contacts to restrict people.

This also means that any public folder can't be restricted to a subgroup of people as the permissions on the Public Folders folder overrides all subfolders.

So, I think this is a bug that needs addressing.

Thanks for the followup.

I'll hold off on updating until 8.2 is released. I've not moved from 8.0.x simply because that version still supports ClamAV for virus filtering. I've got a developer working on a Mac plug-in from the SDK to let me move forward, but he hasn't finished yet, but soon.
