Folks,
Let me begin this by saying that I am no Kerio guru, so I could be missing something obvious. That said, I have started having an issue with our Kerio mail server where the message queue just stops processing.
The background - Kerio Connect 7.1.4 (yes, I know) running on W2K3. Users are popping the mail server. Also, we have an exchange server for selected users. If Kerio doesn't find the user in it's own database it forwards the message to exchange. Far from the best approach, but up until recently all was working fine. Now, approximately once or twice a week, messages just build up in the message queue and don't go anywhere. As I said, Kerio passes the mail on to exchange if the user isn't there, so I'm assuming this would rule out a Kerio POP service issue - exchange users aren't getting mail either.
There is nothing significant in the server log, the Kerio logs don't tell me much either, although that could be cause I don't know what I am looking for. When I reboot the server, everything comes back and all messages process and are delivered straight away.
If anyone could give me some pointers or suggestions it would be much appreciated. As I said, I'm really no Kerio expert.
Thanks in advance
HP

Hmmmm... I'm still struggling with this one. There was nothing in the log that suggesting anything of an error. The queues just fill up, and seemingly the clients are still connecting ok, they are just not getting their mail.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Bummer that the problem is not jumping out in the log entries. Have you tried turning on any of the other log message entries in the debug log? Not sitting in front of my server to see what items are available, but maybe one of the logs might yield some info? Also, since things work after a reboot, maybe there is some issue with the interactions between Kerio and the OS. Is memory use excessive? Processor usage? Have you ran a disk check on the drive that has the queue and mail store folders? Kerio is very disk intensive. Maybe clear out Windows swap file and the temp files? Defrag the Kerio hard drive? Can't hurt to try.

Yeah, it is a bummer Mark. Thanks for your other responses, but all of that seems fine on the server. I think I had a bit of a breakthrough on the weekend though, and I managed a couple of screen grabs when things went pear shaped.

I just had this very problem start (well, two or three weeks ago now) on my 7.1.4 server running on Mac OS X 10.5.8. Backup running, 0% complete for hours (10 before I killed the server).
I finally had to turn off the backup to get the server to function.
I thought that it was just isolated to myself, but now I'm not so sure.
Could this be a bug in 7.1.4?
Cheers,
Jon

Hmmm... the plot thickens Jon! I'm running 7.1.4 on W2K3R2, but it seems like the same issue. As I was reading your post I was thinking perhaps a Windows update had broken things, but obviously not.
The thing is, 7.1.4 has been running issue free for me for a long, long time. I have no idea why things are now bugging out, but, like yourself, it has been about 3 weeks now.
So you have had no more issues since turning off backups? I might try turning off backups and crossing my fingers, but it's obviously not a long term solution.
Thanks for your input!

Thanks for the response Pavel. Could you elaborate please? The email archive folder is too big?
That folder did have a stack of stuff in it, but the disk that folder is on is not even half full. The folder is on a local drive, so it shouldn't be blocked by anything external.

So yesterday, after reading Jon's post, I turned off all scheduled backups. I then thought I'd run a manual backup just to see if that was the issue. It took a while, but it ran successfully and I got the "backup completed" message.
Archiving is on. I have trimmed down the archive folder in case that has a bearing as per Pavel's post.
I DIDN'T have "store backup" checked on in the logs. I do now. Thanks for your help freakinvibe!

I've not had any issue since turning off backup. I wasn't able to run a manual backup without the issue, so off it stays.
I run an rsync backup at the same time that seems to be working fine.
In addition to the message queue stalling, people were having webmail login issues as well, timeouts on IMAP, just the whole server dragging.
I realize that it's not a long-term fix, but my plan is to migrate to newer hardware and KC 8, just need to find a good time for down time.
Cheers,
Jon
