A user complained that he had hit his 30 gig Quota, after doing some investigating we found his Deleted Messages folder had exploded with emails being duplicated 75-100 times a piece. The duplication is not happening right now, but left him with 130,000+ messages in his Deleted Messages. What's the best way to delete that content?

Going into the Store and deleting them manually and re-indexing?
Right clicking on the folder in Webmail and Emptying folder? I know this locks up the user while it's happening and would do this at night.
Some other way?

Safest way would be to do it overnight through webmail or something.

If that isn't acceptable or you are pressed for time, move the deleted emails to another folder and re-index, the manually delete them later.

Tried to use webmail to Empty the Folder however after a few minutes of just looking at the hourglass spin it gave up and didn't delete anything.

I went into the mail store with terminal and was able to delete 26 gigs of deleted mail, however even after a re-index it still shows that the user has 30 gigs of mail when he actually has around 8 gig. Maybe a server restart will fix this? The mail is gone, you can go into the Deleted Items folder and it's empty now, but when you hit his main page the reported mailbox size is showing that incorrect 30 gig value.

Interesting that this article was posted on Wed, May 22, 2013 at 3:46 PM (don't know which time zone that might be).

A good procedure to save for later.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Cheers,
Jon

hah somethings up with the time stamp or it was re-posted. It's been there for a while, I had to reference it late last year when we were having the same issue.
