Hi,

Since we moved one of our clients from Exchange to a hosted Kerio Connect (9.2.8.) im struggling with Outlook speed with Koff (Windows 7/10 Outlook 2013/2016).
Searches are slow, changing folder is slow, "Outlook Not Responding", etc.

Server is overkill with a lot of RAM and SSD, and the Webmail is incredibly fast.

I spent hours trying to figure out why some users have "bad" Outlook performances while others have "super bad" Outlook performances. All of them are using the same hardware with SSD but in different locations.
After setting up one of my users mailbox in my lab i noticed i had no issues, Outlook working as intended, not as fast than Exchange, but still good.

The only difference with my users setup is the connection speed, since i got a 400Mbps Fiber link while most of the users are on a 4Mbps SDSL.

With that in mind i asked tried something really simple on one of my users PC, i put Outlook in Offline Mode. And voila, Outlook super fast, Searches super fast, no more "Outlook is not responding".

So i guess Koff is not using cache the way it should.

Any thoughts?

Yes, but by default it doesn't cache all folders. What you need to do is right-click on the account name in the folder list, go to Data File Properties and then click on the Folder Synchronization tab. Check the boxes to download the entire message and to include all subfolders. Apply your settings and it will download an entire copy of the data on the server allowing Outlook to search, scroll, etc. from the local copy instead of reaching out to the server for every task.

KOFF by default only caches the last 180 days. You can change that and how it behaves.
Also you should exclude the cache folder of Kerio (can be set by registry, otherwise in appdata/roaming) from the antivirus and it shouldn't be on a shared user folder or if you use server profiles, change the cache to a local path.

My external sales guys can use Outlook with KOFF (on SSD, no shared folders and cache not scanned by antivirus) without problems, no matter if they have a good WLAN connection or even EDGE in a remote location. Sure takes some time to get the mails, but search etc. works fine.

FWIW: While this forum is for shipping versions of Connect, have hope. KOFF beta version 9.2.10 build 4539 fixes the Search speed issues. Look into the GFI Insider program if you want to participate in beta builds. This beta build is compatible with Connect 9.2.7 and up. I have been using it for a few days under Windows 10 / Outlook 2016 against Connect 9.2.1p1. When this beta was released, it was not yet decided when it would be rolled in to an official shipping version. My understanding is that the developers are also working on / will soon be working on other KOFF performance improvements. The success with the Search issues gives me hope!
