Hi,

For years we've had a ridiculously large email size limit (110mb). As an architecture firm, it works well for us, and until today, has worked with every version of Outlook we've run.

Yesterday I upgraded to Kerio Connect 9.2.8 and all seemed fine in my testing. This morning I started having users come to me saying emails were not appearing in Outlook but were in Webmail and iOS mail. After some narrowing down, it seems it's due to attachment sizes over 25mb. I saw other posts related to this, but I'm really puzzled why we've EVER had it working if Outlook 2016 Mac has always had this problem?

More importantly, does anyone with this configuration NOT have this problem, what what versions do you run or sneaky plist changes did you make to make it not do this?

We draw buildings. They're big files. Confused

Thanks,

Jeff

Outlook has its limitations. I don't think there is a solution to "hack" Outlook.

Rethink your work routine. E-Mail-Protocols are not designed to handle large E-Mails like yours. I recommend something like a local File Server or a Nextcloud/Owncloud Service.

We have a file sharing site, which I can have staff use for attachments down to 25mb (they'll be annoyed but they'll do it).

BUT ..I've been testing all afternoon and it seems even emails with attachments as small as 15mb are not going through. Again, all I did was update the server to 9.2.8, the same version of outlook did not have this problem in 9.2.5p3. Not only that, we're getting significant delays in attachments of just about any any size. Never had this problem before.

How are the Outlook Clients connected to the Kerio? IMAP or EWS? Try to change the protocol.

You can adjust the limits in the mailserver.cfg, look for section EWS and variable MaxPerItemResponseSize. Not recommended, though - the functionality was introduced due to Outlook's inability to deal with large attachments AFAIK, i. e. you may get crashes etc.

We use ews. imap won't work for us as we also use calendars, contacts, etc.

I'm afraid I will have to reduce the max message size for my users. Email is too critical to us to risk the instability of cfg file hacks. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Again, I'm perplexed because I still have messages in my inbox, appearing just fine in Outlook, that are over 100mb. So it must have to do with the actual sending/receiving and not the store itself, otherwise I assume my old messages would have vanished when I remade my account on my client. In fact, I didn't realize Outlook ever had a 25mb "snag" until yesterday.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi,

here are the parameters to configure in mailstore.cfg to bring the limit to 100 MB:

Mac: file:///usr/local/kerio/mailserver/mailserver.cfg

<table name="EWS">
<variable name="MaxUnparsedMessageSize">104857600</variable>
<variable name="MaxGetItemResponseSize">104857600</variable>
<variable name="MaxPerItemResponseSize">104857600</variable>

Best regards

Thanks for sharing.

I have noticed that Microsoft released 16.16.10. However release notes are poorly documented by Microsoft. What's the status on this Outlook issue? Do attachments larger than 25mb show up without hacking mailstore.cfg? jcooper mentioned attachments in old messages show up fine?

The following site has a registry hack for Outlook for Windows that may help you bypass the Outlook limit. Use at your own risk. I have seen this behavior first hand with Outlook 2011 for Mac. We cannot receive anything over 20MB in Outlook, but the message is available over webmail. So, we setup a message rule that denies all messages over 20MB, and informs the sender to reduce the message size and send again. Or, we also have an FTP site for very large files that the staff uses.

hi Jeff

110Mb is a very large attachment, but having said that...

You don't say if you use Windows or Mac but we have seen issues with the latest release of Outlook for Mac not handling mail with attachments larger than 25Mb. For example if a mail is sent with an attachment over 25Mb it is not in Outlook's Sent Items but it is on the server in Sent Items. Refreshing the Sent Items in Outlook does not make it sync. Every other eMail is OK
