We have KerioConnect 9.2.3 (2929) installed on its own VM and are attempting to back up the directories with Veritas Backup Exec 16.0
When creating the backup job, I can browse all of the directories on the mail server with no problem.
On running the job all of the directories back up with no problem with the exception of the following:

\Kerio\MailServer\store\mail\<our domain>\#public\

Directories listed here will always cause the job to fail with the following error from Backup Exec:

"The directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed.

Directory not found. Cannot backup directory \Kerio\MailServer\store\mail\<our domain>\#public\*****\*****\*****\***** and its subdirectories."

Veritas Support are useless and have no idea how the application actually works outside of their scripted question-answer list so I'm giving up on them.

Moving subdirectories from this location to the desktop and backing these up is successful so it must be something to do with the location and maybe some Kerio process locking the files although I do have Microsoft VSS snapshotting enabled.

Has anyone had any similar experiences with Kerio and Backup Exec?

why not using the kerio build-in backup?

it has all functions you need: rotation, number of backups, full & incremental.

Hi Zakk,

We are using the built in backup (which is scheduled to run at a different time) but this does not explain why access to these folders is being rejected/denied when it was working previously.

I use both as well and am not experiencing this. Is it possible your path is too deep? Past the 255 character limit?

I hate to suggest this, it's worked for me in the past, but have you tried recreating the backup job from scratch?

Maybe create a new job where you only backup that structure and see how it goes. If it works, I'd suggest recreating the job.

I suppose that's possible although there's nothing I saw in the BE documentation regarding any limit to the "depth" of a directory for BE can handle. Given the buggy nature of the application and the complete lack of knowledge from the support teams, I guess it's completely plausible though.

In all fairness, BE is handling other "deep" directories with no problems, this problem seems only connected to Kerio's MailServer directory.

Since you are using the Kerio backup mechanism, why not point the backups to a higher level folder on the root level? Then have VBE backup that folder instead? We run KC on a Mac, and everything below /var/local/Kerio requires super user access because it is restricted.

So, I would have the KC backup mechanisms save your backups to a folder on the root level, /Kerio_BKPs and then VBE backup that folder.

This is what I'm having to do. It seems strange as this has worked previously and now no one seems to know what's gone wrong (including me!)
