Rewriting Recipient Domain when sending email [message #132235]

Is it possible using the Sending Message Filter rules to rewrite just the domain of an outgoing email? We have a client that is using efax for sending faxes and all emails are <<phonenumber>>@efaxsend.com. They are in the process of setting up a HiPAA compliant service with efax that requires outgoing faxes to be sent to <<phonenumber>><_at_>efaxsendsecure.com. It would be nice if we could automatically rewrite just the domain of the outgoing address from efaxsend to efaxsendsecure if a user uses the wrong domain.

It doesn't look like this is possible with the current message filter rules, but maybe I am missing something. We are running Connect 9.1.1.

This is possible in the Message Filters. You can create a receiving rule that changes the To header.

That is for receiving messages. Sending messages does not appear to give you the option to rewrite headers.

All messages are receiving at some point, even if the recipient is remote.

looks like while I could replace the entire email address using a receiving rule, in this case I'm looking to replace just the domain and keep the portion of the email address before the <_at_> the same. I don't see a way to do this in the receiving rules. Even using placeholders, they appear to only work for the entire address.

I don't believe there is a way to modify only part of the original recipient. The only alternative I can imagine is to reject the message and provide a reason, informing the sender that the recipient domain has changed and that they must resend the message using the correct domain.

Would it be accurate to describe it thusly:

"A receive rule is applied as the message is being accepted by the SMTP process, regardless of server relative direction. A send rule is applied when the SMTP process is outputing the message, either to another SMTP server or to the local message queue"

All messages must be processed through the queue. Receiving rules apply to messages before they enter the queue. Sending rules apply to messages after they have been processed through the queue and are on their way to be delivered to the recipient (either local or remote).
