I am not sure if my problem is a Linux configuration problem or just how Kerio handles files. We occasionally have to access the Kerio store folder, both directly on the server and through a Samba share, for various reasons. The problem we are having is that all of the .eml files are owned by the root user and root group and that user/group only has rw permission to the files. So whenever we need to do something we have to run a chown command and chmod command or run all the commands a sudo (obviously works from the console but not through Samba). Using chmod and chown works for one off things, but any new messages that come in the permissions are set as the others are. I have tried working with permissions and ACLs to get a certain set of permissions to apply to newly created files but it isn't working. Am I missing something with the ACLs/Permissions or is it just the way Kerio is creating/copying/moving the messages around that it resets the permissions each time?
For the record I am running it on Ubuntu 14.04.
