I just got notification that a feature request of "Public folders for files / simple file sharing" (see here: http://feedback.kerio.com/forums/29250-kerio-connect/suggest ions/382400-public-folders-for-files-simple-file-sharing has been declined. This was one of the biggest suggestions in the list. Kerio's competitors have this, IceWarp and even Office 365 is setup for this type of sharing ability. Maybe it's time to give up on Kerio and move on.... I'm very disgusted that this was declined without any good reason. I guess Kerio's programmers aren't up to the task? It just makes a LOT of sense to provide additional collaboration tools within the Connect product. This could even help with file attachments, or make group communication far more effective. I can't even fathom why Kerio would not want to improve their product in this manner.

Actually, anything that encourages using email as a file storage system should be killed in my humble opinion. I can't think of anything more detrimental to a high performance email system than having shared files hanging around.
If that's a deal killer for you, sorry to see you go.

I share Scott's sentiment.
We probably would not need the capabilities in the way Scotts laid them out but I agree in this regard Kerio looks pretty bad in comparison to competitors. Also, shutting down a request which had been supported by so many people reflects badly on the Kerio devolvement team.
My beef is slightly different. One can't even attach files to calendar entries; a feature which other platforms support. For some of my users it would be really helpful to have a meeting agenda, an itinerary, etc. attached to a calendar entry. This is really useful for someone being on the road using a smartphone or tablet without full access to the network. Even if you connect to a network on a portable device it is still cumbersome since one would have to go to a different app and start searching to pull up the document. Saying an email server is not a fileserver doesn't cut it anymore these days.
The other thing I disagree with is that Kerio says that they are trying to implement a 3rd party solution. What does that mean? Will users be asked to sign up for something like Dropbox? Kerio used to have a great product called Kerio Workspace. At one point it seemed as if they were trying to connect it with Kerio Connect. Unfortunately this went nowhere and Kerio Workspace eventually became a cloud only product.
For now we will stick with Kerio Connect. But I will keep a close eye on the development of this product. I have already migrated email servers twice. A 3rd time is not out of the question.

CB,
I'm with you on this one.
I'm still trying to convince clients of the insanity of having the copier scan to email, then the recipient saves the attachment, renames it, then sends it out again, all without ever deleting the original message from the copier. Save it to the file server, rename, attach and go. Faster on all accounts.
Cheers,
Jon

Heather -- I appreciate what you are trying to do here, and like the seeing some feedback on some of the items with more votes. It's good to see that someone at Kerio is looking. I also have an appreciation that it is impossible to make everyone happy. However, I have to say that I think this is a one instance of a BIG misjudgment by Kerio.
Heather P (Kerio) wrote on Thu, 11 February 2016 12:17It does make a lot of sense to bring new work flows for line of business activities into the Kerio Connect client,
Statements like this make me cringe, because I read it as "one more feature that won't be available in Outlook with Kerio". Just a list of the few of the things I get pushback on:
- Users can't set their own forwarding when on vacation or what-not
- There is no administrative over-ride to login to a user's account.
- Administrators cannot grant permission to a user's mailbox / calendar to other users. (when an employee is on extended sick leave, for example). The admin cannot configure delegation for users
- When a user's account is removed, they are removed from user groups and mailing lists, but not from Global contact groups
- Kerio multi-server is half-baked, poorly documented, and provides limited migration migration options for existing users. If I have to do a 'forklift' upgrade anyway, the door has now been opened to see what other products are out there.
- KOFF performance. Enough said.
- Version 9 web mail (sorry, 'Connect Client'). Mostly a good move forward, but many usability issues as documented elsewhere in this forum.
- Many things cannot be managed by the management console, and require the admin to log into the Connect Client: Shared folders, global address books, etc.
Good is better than evil because it's nicer

I totally agree! Users should NOT be using email as file storage. Kerio doesn't shackle anyone to their platform, so if this is so important that someone feels that they have to leave, so be it. Of course moving to another email platform is not as simple as making a few mouse clicks and saying goodbye. It's an expensive, and time consuming operation that is hard on end users, and stressful for system admins. About half way into a migration away from Kerio, I'm sure this guy will be wondering if having the ability to hoard files in Kerio Connect is really worth it.

Great list. I hope that Kerio implements these soon!
