How do I access compressed archive folders so I can uncompress them (running server on OSX)? I know enough to move around directories in UNIX, but I am a little nervous about messing with permissions in directories Kerio is using. Following the path to the archive folder I get denied when I try to move into the mailserver directory.
I have spent some time searching for this info and can't find it anywhere. I would think it would be an important part of the documentation!

The directories Kerio uses are protected, as you've found, from "normal" users, however, you can add your account to the group (IIRC, wheel) to allow access to that set of directories.
Then you can use either the GUI or command line to access the archive files.
As an aside, I've stopped compressing my archive folders, having received numerous requests to search back messages. But, the search isn't too efficient, so I'm looking at mail archive software that runs on Linux and provides a web front end. At the moment, MailArchiva seems to be decent and theoretically runs on Mac OS X, though I've not had great success getting it running there-seems much happier in Linux.
Feel free to ask further questions-I'm running my server under OS X and have for the last 9+ years.
Cheers,
Jon

Thanks for responding Jon.
I'm admin on the server and in Kerio, but I guess maybe you mean something else by "group," IIRC, and wheel? These are not terms I am familiar with (I know enough to be dangerous, but only just barely). Could you elaborate? It would be lovely to be able to get at files through the Finder, but per my original post I do know enough to be able to fire up Terminal and move around in directories and do basic stuff.
I actually want to get the archives out of Kerio and my plan is to use MailSteward Pro for our archive. I use this for my personal email, up to 250,000+ messages now, and uses MySQL for the database. Quite easy to use and robust and John Seward, the developer, is super responsive to requests for support.

Found some stuff on "wheel." OK, enabled and logged in as root user, that works for letting me see everything.
