DNS failures delay messages due to IPv6 failures [message #125293] Wed, 28 October 2015 05:26 Go to next message

I'm running Kerio 8.5.2 on a Mac server running 10.8.5 and the DNS lookups are performed by the server itself using the Mac OS X server's DNS. I've noticed an increase in messages going to my users that

"The server was not able to deliver your mail message (DNS lookup failed)"

It's related to an IPv6 DNS request that fails. Turning off IPv6 in system preferences doesn't make a difference. It does go through eventually but users are getting annoyed. It looks like it may be possible to disable IPv6 lookups in the named.conf file but I haven't found clear enough instructions yet. Have any of you run into this and found a fix? Is there anything else I can do besides making changes to BIND? Anything in Kerio perhaps?

No solution for you, BUT I wouldn't count on kerio in this case. Kerio works in the upper network layer. Basically it tells the OS to do a dns lookup and the OS says "yep, ipv4 ABCD but ipv6 > nothing"
