Ladies and gents,

I'm seeking for some advice.

I have Kerio running on OS X server running 10.6 (MacPro Server)
MailStore is located on RAID5 partition and is only used for that.
Serving +/- 120 user accounts.

Kerio was working fairly OK as it does always. And then something happened, have no idea what but it become absolutely unusable for some people.
Webmail is slow in general, but some accounts has this spinning loading circle for ages if loads email at all.
Next issue was empty Webmail, no Inbox, no folder structure at the side... After googling around I've found that by replacing status.fld file with one line "T0" in it helps. Ok, it helped for 70% of affected user mailboxes but it's still slow and gets corrupted once again very quickly.
Simple reindex mailbox which always helped in the past isn't fixing this issue anymore.

Also log looks pretty much ok, nothing new, no massive errors or so... (both Kerio and OS X log itself)

Of course I've rebooted server and Kerio service hundreds of times so unfortunately there is no quick fix.

Any suggestions? Anything?

Thanks.

Look inside the Warning log for any records mentioning corrupted folders, re-indexing or rebuilding index type of messages.

Using the Web admin console, go to Status->Opened Folders and look for any entries in the second column that includes names like $indexing_agent.

You may also want to look for any degradation in the system I/O speed. Look for tools on how to measure I/O speed on the partition where the Kerio Connect message store is located.

good morning, I had the same incident, mailserver went slow, damaged some indexes on certain users folders, and reindexing didn't solve the issue. Have you had any additional progress on the subject?

Thanks a lot.

Thanks,

Diego

How many physical disks in your RAID5 mailstore?

Generally RAID5 isn't ideal for a Connect store... most preferring RAID10 for speed... and at 120 users you very likely are hitting the limits of what that drive is able to keep up with. Thus the erratic behavior and corruption. Kerio simply likes very fast data stores.

Also what version of Kerio Connect are you presently running?

in my case, RAID 10, 5 disks, 60 users, I also think that 120 users is quite enough for a RAID 5 drive.

Still haven't found what's causing index corruption. I reindex users folders as warning appear, and it seems to work for a while, after a few days, it starts all over again.

Hope my experience helps us all to solve this issues.

Thanks,

Diego

I used to use Mac servers for Kerio Connect hosting and those servers were using RAID5. I would do two things:

1. Using Disk Utility, verify your volume to make sure that the file structure isn't corrupt.

2. Check to make sure that one of your drives didn't go bad or sometimes one could have a hiccup forcing the RAID card to rebuild the RAID5 array.

From my experience, you can probably get up to about 300 users on a RAID5 array without too many performance problems. Once you get past that threshold, you will probably start seeing corrupted journal.db database files.

We started seeing erratic behavior on RAID 5 volumes when the kerio user count on the box exceeded 100 or so.

RAID 10 fixed all.

All of you use MacOS Server? Or anyone with problems another kind of server OS?

I guess the problem lies not within the Raid or Hardware, but in the overlaying OS.

If the raid would be faulty, not only the index were corrupted, it would also corrupt files and / or the raid would fail.

If the problem goes away with a raid 10, it might be because the raid 10 can write/read faster. Try to google those symptoms with mac os server.

Mac OS HFS+ has a lot of overhead. We moved all of our servers over to Linux as a result.

Our mailserver runs on Ubuntu Linux 14.04.2, EXT3 partition on RAID 10. As for now, I've been re-indexing user after user, and after each re-indexing task, restart Kerio Connect. So far, none of the repaired indexes have corrupted again, and overall performance has increased. I know this is not the best and most logical solution, but it works fine for us. Hope it helps somebody else.

Thanks,

Diego
