I have a few users who send regularly to mailing lists that include all external users. They are moderators of these distros but are not members. When sending a message to a distro, the messages go out fine. Its the response and email that is used that is odd. The messages come back from the email distro address, usually with a "-owner" at the end.

How should the mailing list be configured so it is no trouble for the people sending to the lists? Also, when people respond back we want the mail to go to the originator.

Hi Joe,

I think it's expected behavior for the From address to read list_name-owner<_at_>domain.com in the received message. You can specify the reply-to rules at the bottom of the "posting" tab within the list_name settings. If you want a recipient's response to go back to the original sender, then specify "sender" in the drop-down menu on the "posting" tab (and "message" section). In this case, replies will go to the moderator who sent the original email (definition of originator).

I'm not sure what you mean when you suggest that people sending to the lists are having trouble. If they're moderators for the list, you can specify that moderators are allowed to post to the list, members are allowed, and non-members are not allowed.

Please let me know if I've misunderstood something along the way.
