Hello,
I want to migrate a Windows Small Business Server 2003 and I'm looking for an alternative to MS Exchange.
For testing purposes I downloaded Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials and the Kerio Connect Appliance. Now I'm trying to install Kerio Active Directory Extension (KADE) but the installation procedure is rolling back. Maybe the newest MS Servers are not supportet at the moment?
Attatched you find the installation log.

Realizing that a new version arrived, I tried 8.2.2-2224 with no success. Same result. Release notes are telling w2k12 r2 support was added!?!?

Hello,

Looking at the log, you appear to have been trying to install KADE 8.2.1; the new versions for v8.2.2 are now available for download from www.kerio.com.

Let me know if that works.

Best regards,

Neil.

We've tested both Standard and Datacenter editions with full-featured Active Directory and both works fine. Essentials edition is different and may not work at this moment.

Attatched you find the log of the unsuccessful install of version 8.2.2
I'll try the trial of Windows Standard Server instead.

It is a problem of Windows 2012 R2 Essentials edition - administrator created during server installation does not have privileges to modify AD schema. You need to add the administrator account into "Schema Admins" user group.

Hi pavel, you are right but it is worth to mention that after adding the admin to the schema admins group you need to log out and into windows before the install can be done.

I am having similar issues with the KADE installation failing when trying to install on Windows 2012 Essentials. Administrator account is a member of the Schema Admins, and has been rebooted multiple times. The installation starts, then rolls back and says that the wizard was interrupted before it could be completely installed.

The install log says that there is unknown error in AD while adding a new properties.
Make sure that the Windows 2012 R2 Essentials server is an actual AD controller before installing KADE.

How to verify correct access rights for AD schema modification
1. Open ADSI Edit utility.
2. Select More Actions and "Connect to...".
3. Select "Schema" Naming context.
4. Right-click on Schema and select "Properties".
4. Select "Security" tab. If the user has insufficient rights for modifying AD schema, all the access rights will be greyed out and cannot be changed. (see the picture below).

I checked the permissions using the ADSI Edit utility and permissions were not greyed out. I made sure the Authenticated users had full control. After reboot I tried the KADE installation and it failed again (see updated log). Please see the attached information from PowerShell. Also this is a migration from a SBS2003 system.

I had a similar issue after migration. I created a new admin user to use and it worked fine. I suspect that SBS2003 puts some strange options on the old administrator profile.

Just tried creating a new admin account, and checked the permissions, and I am still having the same problem. My gut is telling me to dump Win 2012 and go with Win 2008 R2 for multiple reasons, not just this situation.

You are installing the 64bit version, right? Otherwise, I got nottin. All I can say is that it worked on my 2012 DC, but I do not have 2012r2

Yeah, I checked that. The 32bit won't even start to install. Just to be clear, my version is Windows 2012 Essentials. I'm going to create a virtual without doing the migration from SBS2003 and see if that works. I have a feeling that it is either an Essentials issue or a migration issue.
