Hi all
I use a number of different methods to back up our customers' Kerio installs. Options include CrashPlan, rsync, backup exec, PresSTORE.
What I would like to know is what I can exclude from the backup within the main kerio store folder? Do I have to backup all of the index files for example, or could I just exclude *.fld? The reason I ask is that for our larger installs, the size of the differential backups grow very quickly as the backup software will back up the index files even if the user has only received one new message in his or her mailbox. These index files are sometimes fairly large and so eat up space on the backup quickly.
Would be handy to know what can be excluded because it can be rebuilt dynamically if disaster struck.

Are you directly backing up the primary Kerio store?
I wouldn't attempt to do that for a variety of reasons... including what you describe.
Our strategy is to use the built-in Kerio backup, and then backup *those* .zip files via your preferred backup system/methodology.

Thanks for your reply. I forgot I'd posted this topic! oops.
I stopped using the built-in backup routine as it was taking more than 12 hours to complete on a full backup and I couldn't afford to have the system so unresponsive during hours of use 
The mail store is about 100GB and it's running on an SSD RAID so performance shouldn't be an issue.

Just curious how many users you have for that 100GB mail store? Using the Kerio built in backup, I end up with 62x2GB files on my full backup and it takes just about 6 hours. I only have 16 users, so that might affect the timing. Just thought I would share my experience.
I'm no expert on RAID performance, but I suspect more than just the storage configuration plays into the performance of the backup routine.
