We're using mail aliases for some email accounts to deliver them to a public folder (eg: careers<_a.t_>company.com, info<_a.t_>company.com) for reading by multiple users.

However we have a problem with tagged spam. It still gets delivered in to the folder with the **SPAM** tag applied, whereas preferably it would simply be deleted or move by a rule. Is there a way to implement this with some kind of server-side filtering?

If you don't want the tagged spam, configure KMS to not tag the spam but silently delete it.

As it is, no. AKAIK, there is no way to apply filters to an alias.

You might be able to accomplish this with another account. I've never done it, but it should be possible. I'm thinking along these lines:

  1. Direct the alias to another account that has write access to the public folder.
  2. Let the default spam rule move the mail to the account's Junk E-mail folder. Or, you could create a custom rule before the default spam rule to catch mail flagged as spam AND To: alias<_a.t_>domain.com move it to a custom folder, then stop processing more rules.
  3. Create another rule after the spam rule to move mail To: alias<_a.t_>domain.com to the public folder.

If all goes well, it'll filter the junk mail out, and the account you use to filter the mail won't ever see it - unless the filters are changed/deleted.

This is what I have done. I have a 'sorter' account. Then my aliases point to that account. Then using webmail, I setup rules to move items to public folders. At the expense of 1 license it was worth being able to move the emails sent to aliases to public folders. This one sorter account has about 10 aliases and it sends the mail to the appropriate folder.

Is the approach James listed above still the best method for this?

That's how I'd do it
