Dear Kerio,

that is not funny! That's really poor!

As several people, including me, pointed out in the feature request and in the beta section. Backups of sensible company data into a cloud (and more evil, into an US cloud)is no option at all. Your excuses why you decided to do this are lame.

I quote Lubos Rybnicek from Kerio:

"we have considered several ways (protocols) which can be used for configuration backups delivery. Although the backup does not contain large data at the moment, it may be enlarged in future (for example by statistical database). In such case the email delivery wouldn't be a viable option so I don't think this particular protocol would be implemented (soon).
"

Did you really think, if there will be a lot of data, a storage OUTSIDE the company is an option?

And I quote again:

"And there is a wide range of other available protocols or services (FTP/FTPS/SFTP, SCP, Samba, NFS, ..., Amazon cloud data storages, ...). It's obvious we cannot implement all of them and various users prefer different protocols. Considering the increasing popularity of cloud services we decided to start with Samepage.io and wait for users' feedback.
"

At least one STANDARD would have been nice!

A lot of people are really not amused about this. We get the taste, that your samepage experiment developed so badly, that now you try to force the people to use it.

Nothing forces you to use this. I think it's great - the automatic revision history is perfect. I hope they offer this feature in all their products!

But if it's not for you, roll your own. Do manual config exports every time you change something and consider using rcs to keep track..

Well, that's the point. It was a feature request many voted for. But not with samepage as the backend. It would have been only a few standard linux commands to enable this for standard destinations. Revision history can be done automated without samepage. Ans as I pointed out before: US clouds are not the place you want to put the key to your company network in.

You can do quite a lot on your own. You can enable SSH and do the automated backup from the other side (with some basic unix commands).

Probably we have to do a lot of working around if we want features were Kerio doesn't see a profit for samepage.

Yeah, I know about the "working around". As I keep harping, better API's in ALL products would let us fix many of these issues ourselves.

While the politics of this discussion are important, I also think that this part of the statement should be highlighted:

Considering the increasing popularity of cloud services we decided to start with Samepage.io and wait for users' feedback.

We are trying to come up with solutions that work for everyone, so Samepage was a good start, but if you need or prefer something different please use the Suggest Idea button and let your voice be heard. Developing features like this is a two way process, so your feedback is very important to us. It's also important that you let us know how you would imagine your implementation to work, so that our developers can see the vision you have of the feature.

@sfhn I completely agree with you (and so does +90% of the users that voted for automatic backups). There is a new idea posted regarding Standard backups, I suggest we all go vote for that now Sad

What I don't get is why people get negative karma when they disagree with decisions made by Kerio. This isn't right.
Yes, I gave sfhn good karma for this complaint. It's a perfectly legitimate complaint and he shouldn't be punished for not being satisfied with Kerios decision or their explanation as to why they did what they did.

Well, Lisa, you know that we all HAVE made our opinions known and dropping Workspace was NOT something anybody but Kerio wanted.

Yeah, I know: resources. You had to put the money where you thought the best return would be and maybe y'all are even right, at least for the short term. I don't think it was a smart decision longer term, but that's just my opinion.

But, that aside: I see nothing wrong with building in this support for Samepage. It would be silly to put in, oh say Dropbox support and ignore your own product. As to adding other services, I think an API makes more sense than cluttering up the Admin Interface with backup to this, backup to that, backup to the other.

Backing up to Samepage makes sense because it is a Kerio product. I hope you add that to ALL products. It would be no charge for sure if that's all that customers use it for - they'd never run out of space Smile

That's my take.
