Hi Guys

Everytime i try to get program updates for LANguard 9, i get the error message listed above.
This is very frustrating as i seem to be out of date with vulnerabilitie updates.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Does it list a specific file? Perhaps a .cab file?

I've had this problem with every install of build 20090709 I've done

you'll get the message Update file was not found or is not valid if you try the manual update and this series of messages if you try to download the patches to path
"Download update information file...
index.txt  -  successfully downloaded
lnssupdateinfo.xml  -  successfully downloaded
lnssupdateinfo.xml  -  Update file was not found or is not valid.
"

It will download updates if you configure it to check on application start up, and then restart the application but won't work for manual updates.

I had to fall back to build 20090313 to manually download updates for internal distribution.

Can you locate the C:\Program Files\GFI\Languard 9.0\Data\Updates folder, and move all of the files from this folder out into a subfolder on the Desktop, and try again?

I have tried this and still have the same issue, however when i select to check for update on startup it works fine, only manual update fails as per tempest's post.

We would need to investigate a full set of logs to determine why manual updates fail when automatic updates succeed. This is an odd occurrence, typically automatic updates fail more often and manual updates work without any trouble. Will you please open a support request online at http://support.gfi.com so we can obtain a full set of debug logs?

Airwolfr and DrewE could you please post the resolution to this issue in this forum post as I have just encountered this same issue ...

I'm begining to wonder if GFI has a QA department at all at this point. Some of this stuff should have came out during testing. I thought this was an issue isolated to a single patch I had problems with until today I needed to download more patches and I encountered the same issue. I'm glad I checked these forums before creating another ticket.

I really hope GFI fixes this before the next major patch cycle. Would it be possible to get this set with a sticky since this is a significant loss in functionality until a patch is released to correct this?

GFI-090727-12748 has not yet been resolved. However, the following has been recommended:

-uninstall NSS
-delete the following program folder
.\LANguard 9.0\Data\Update
-make sure that antivirus software has an exclusion from realtime scanning for the .\languard 9.0\ folder
-download languard9.exe from ftp.gfisoftware.com
-run the installer to reinstall NSS

note: This will not lose any of your existing settings. it will only reinstall the updates component of NSS

The software downloads updates from our website, and places them in this update folder, then the updates are applied from here when the program launches.

After reinstallation of the package, Automatic & Manual updates are working fine now.

Thanks for your assistance.
