All Updates Failing Wednesday, June 21, 2017 11:02 PM (permalink)
Hoping to save others the hassle.

Noticed that we got a load of update failures overnight (evening of 20/06/2017)
"Failed to update Engine AntiPhishing: System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. ---> System.Security.Authentication.AuthenticationException: The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure."
This settled down in the early hours of the morning. I figured some certificates were updated out of hours and didn't think anything else of it.

Around 13:00 on 21/06 we started getting errors again, this time..
"Failed to update Engine AntiPhishing: System.Net.WebException: The request was aborted: The request was canceled.   at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()"

I'd been working on some other GFI WebMonitor related issues so assumed something else had broken along the way, have been troubleshooting for hours to no avail thinking I'd made a change that broke it.

Got home and installed a fresh GFI WebMonitor on network and machine that has never seen GFI before and encountered the same issues. So essentially - if you're getting a load of failure notifications about GFI WebMonitor updates, it seems to be a problem with GFI WebMonitor update servers.

It really would be nice if this stuff was communicated or there was an accurate service status page somewhere?

    There was a DNS update

    Can you verify
    nslookup webmonupdate.gfi.com

    Result should be:

     Name:    gfi-downloader-137146314.us-east-1.elb.amazonaws.com
     Address:  34.200.203.139
     Aliases:  webmonupdate.gfi.com
               updates.gfi.com

IP Address changes a couple of times a day so the thing to ensure is that the Name is correct.

FWIW, We are experiencing the same symptoms / errors as posted here.  I put a support call in yesterday morning 10am but have had no contact back other than a ticket confirmation.  A colleague tweeted GFI yesterday evening and had a confirmation tweet back saying they were having issues... Not great customer service in my opinion but it looks like we're stuck until the issue is resolved

Updates for WebMonitor 10+ are working.
If they are not working for you please check your DNS.

              Hello ianb,
I don't know, what you exactly mean with check DNS. I got this respons from nslookup:

              Non-authoritative answer:
              Name:    webmonupdate.gfi.com
              Address:  34.194.100.70

But updates still not working. Error message that is thrown now is:
Failed to apply patch with Xdelta.

When I try to run it manually, error from command prompt is:
              C:\Program Files\GFI\WebMonitor>"C:\Program Files\GFI\WebMonitor\xdelta30p.x86-32.exe" -d -s"C:\Program Files\GFI\WebMonitor\Updates\vipre\vipre.zip" "C:\Program Files\GFI\WebMonitor\Updates\vipre\vipre_rev59132to59148.bin" "C:\Program Files\GFI\WebMonitor\Updates\vipre\vipre.zip.tmp" with exit code 1 and output "xdelta3: to overwrite output file specify -f: C:\Program Files\GFI\WebMonitor\Updates\vipre\vipre.zip.tmp
xdelta3: too many filenames: with ...

partialy resolved by GFI at their update servers: updates were not failling by downloading, but still failed. Then I have to clean up folders used for update cache and updates started to work.
folders are located here: "C:\Program Files\GFI\WebMonitor\Updates". Every engine have its own update cache folder. Two files have to persist: "*current_revision" and "*current_revision.server" and one folder have to persist with the name of engine.

                This worked for me.
