Hi!

I upgraded from 12 to 14. Enabled "spam digest" to send digest to administrator. It is rather usefull options. It worked 3 days, then stop working. There were not any changes of GFI settings. I only rebooted the server. I checked the spam digest settings, it is enabled to send everyday at 23.00.

Did anyone have the same problem? and how to solve it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I installed new server win 2008 and ME 14. It worked correct only 2 days. Now we have the same as on the previous server. The spam digest doesn't send mail digest. What is the matter with this spam digest? Why does it work only few days?

Hi!

It looks like i solved the problem. I created new file GFI\MailEss..\Data\reports1.mdb and reconfigured reporter to use it. Then I restarted GFI services and looked the size of the new file. It increased up to 2097MB like report.mdb

Now i concern only one thing: how often I will have to do it

voker,

Thanks for letting us know what resolved this case for you.  If your archive stores are growing that fast you may want to look into moving these to SQL if you have a SQL server available.

John,

Thanks for your advice. But by now we don't have SQL availability.

It was too early to talk about solving the problem. My previous steps could to help me only for 1 day. It doesn't work again.

How can I reduce log information storing to report.mdb?

voker,

The only real way to reduce the amount of messages being logged to the reports.mdb would be to reduce the amount of messages your server actually receives.  This is going to be very hard to do.  How large is your current reports.mdb?  Do you have any backup or antivirus software that runs on this server?  This could cause these databases to grow very quickly as well if they are being scanned by these programs.  In general we ask that you exclude ..\Program Files\GFI and ..\Program Files\Common Files\GFI from these scans.

John,

My server, according to spamdigest (when it works), receives about 700000 messages a day. Directory Harvesting blocks 99,5% of them at SMTP level. The size of reports.mdb is 2097124 KB. It grows up from 216 KB to 2097124 KB for 15 minutes. After it the size of the file doesn't change, only "Modified Date" changes every 3 minutes. There aren't any backup or antivirus software installed on the server.

Voker,

Do you happen to have a SQL server available?  We could move the reporting from the access database to a SQL database to see if this helps.

Just a thought, if it is the size of the database giving you issues, and you receive 700,000 messages (99.5% DH SPAM) why don't you turn on Exchange recipient filtering?  That would eliminate 696,500 emails from showing up in the reporting database.

You lose some view on the number of SPAM you actually receive (as GFI can only report on what it touches, and it never touches messages filtered by Exchange RF), but it may clear up your problem.

Besides the reporting difference, I don't know of any benefit for using GFI DH over Exchange RF.

newfood, thanks for your ideas.

But I don't use Exchange as a mail server. ME14 was installed on a stand alone windows 2008 with SMTP server. DH is also recipient filter, which is working on LDAP requests to Mail Directory.

Regards.

Hi,

the problem was solved by upgrading to new version 20081024 and recreating reports file.

Thanks to all for participating.
