Hi Everyone, I have a problem that I hope someone can help me with. I have a task to backup my laptop and when I press "start backup now" I get the following popup message: "You cannot use this feature because the GFI Backup 2009 - Home Edition Scheduler Service is not running. Do you want to start the Scheduler Service now" I press Yes and get another popup window message that says: "The GFI Backup 2009 - Home Edition Scheduler Service could not be started. Please check that it is installed and you have permission to start it" GFI backup works fine on the desktop. How do I check that it is installed and I have permission to start it ? Have a great day, Croc

Crocodile, what operating system are you running ? Did you recently changed your Windows account ? Try running the command "services.msc" (without quotes) from Windows : Start - Run. Scroll down in the services list and see if you can find a service named "GFI Backup 2009 - Home Edition Scheduler Service". Check the status and the starup type of that service. If the status is not started, try to start the service by righ clicking on it, then clicking on Start.

Hi Dumitru, Thank you very much for your input. I am running XP Pro SP 2. I don't use a login account or password as I am the only person that uses this machine. I looked in the services list as you kindly suggested but it does not appear. Perhaps this is the problem. Just need to figure out what to do next. Have a great day, Croc

The Acronis scheduler service runs with the system account and presumably starts at boot time, before any user is logged on. Since I've been having problems with scheduled backups failing to run, apparently anytime after a "switch user" function has been performed, can I just log out all users, leaving the machine sitting at the login screen, and expect the scheduled backup to run? If a backup will run in that case, just for good measure I'd probably reboot the machine and simply walk away, just in case there's any debris left from earlier "switch user" operations.

TI Home 2009, build 9796 Windows XP Pro SP3 ... If a backup will run in that case, just for good measure I'd probably reboot the machine and simply walk away, just in case there's any debris left from earlier "switch user" operations. Well, it worked, mostly. When I was done last night, I rebooted the machine and walked away, leaving the login screen up. When I checked this morning, I found that my scheduled backup had run successfully. However, the "shutdown -s" command that I have in the task to be run after the backup completes did not shut the machine down, although according to the system logs, it did run successfully. This is almost certainly a Windows problem, and I'll have to investigate further.
