Hi - thank you for providing this high-quality backup product.

I installed the product for the first time yesterday and completed my first backup with no problem. An overnight scheduled backup gave me some errors that I was hoping you could help me diagnose.

I am backing up from a Windows 7 Home Premium PC to a NAS (FreeNAS). I suspect the filenames may be too long on the NAS thus giving the error.

Here is a sample of the warning I was receiving within GFI Backup

WARNING: Invalid argument to date encode\\FREENAS\Data\Documents\D\Documents\Jeff\Buy Your Own Business\CA - Metal Distribution\RS-3146Financial Package3.05.08.pdf

I have 21 similar lines to this. The rest of the backup completed with no problem. I am happy to send in the additional log files if that would be helpful.

Hi Jeff,

Could you do one more thing, please ?

Open Windows Explorer and browse to D:\Documents\Jeff\Buy Your Own Business\CA - Metal Distribution
Right click on "RS-3146Financial Package3.05.08.pdf", then select Properties. Make a screenshot with that window and send it to us. If you can, do the same screenshot with other 2-3 files that give you the same error.

I'll send the screen captures over in just a moment, but you are definitely on to something. The modified date for each of these files says 12/31/2049!

Exactly, you got the point. Change the modified date to a valid date. A short look with Google using something like "change the modified date" (without quotes) will show you some programs that you can use to change that date. However, changing the date back is not 100% guaranteed to work, we encountered some similar cases, and it seems that it gooes a little deeper than just the modified date, in some cases it might work, in other cases it won't work.

That fixed it. Thanks for your help.

I changed the modified date on the files and two syncs later everything is in great shape (two syncs because I changed the original file, but the backed-up version still had the old modified date, once the initial sync finished it gave me an error on the backup drive, a second sync showed everything perfect)
