My MailSecurity system has started sending notifications when a virus is caught. All of the scan engines have notifications turned off. This has only just started happening, was not previously. What is causing the notifications now, and how can I turn them off? MS version 10.0 Build 20090526 Thanks in advance!

This is happening to many other people, and there are 2 or 3 other threads regarding the issue. You need only look at the most recent posts to get up to speed. I believe what is causing this is a shift to using password protected archives. Read Sophos's Graham Cluley blog post here: http://www.sophos.com/blogs/gc/g/2009/10/23/hackers-launch-contract-settlements-attack-inboxes/ The payload is a trojan. The underlying problem here is that these messages are being snagged by the decompression engine, and that functionality was never included to disable alerts associated with the decompression engine. There may be a secondary and more troubling issue of these messages skipping MailEssentials as well...

AF, I have checked the knowledge base and within the Decompression node you can click on each of the individual filters to turn off notifications. Granted, this is not very intuitive. I was able to turn off user notifications for password protected archives, and I hope this will solve the issue. From looking at the node and the various filters within it, it would appear on the face of it that you have no way of controlling the notifications. The feature is there, you just have to click on each individual filter. I hope this helps!

Many thanks for the replies. I did not even know these settings existed. I have disabled the notifications and see from here. Thanks again!

Update: That did it! It was the obscure notification settings for the decompression engine.
