egypt123 -> Scan Engine failure! This time it's surb.dll !! (15.Sep.2009 7:54:57 AM)

Just another in a list of dll failures in 14.1. Did GFI even test this product? Guess it's time to rollback.... !!!!

Error Event ID 1004:
Reporting queued error: faulting application gfiscans.exe, version 14009.727.0.25, faulting module surbl.dll, version 14009.803.0.18, fault address 0x0001b7be.

Could it be that there's something a bit screwy with your server in general? Perhaps RAM issues?

Everything else seems to be okay. The SMTP errors I was getting and posted in another thread have all went away since the ME upgrade and running the Exchange maintenance. Although, I doubt the Exchange maintenance had anything to do with fixing the errors. It's just something I did right before the upgrade. I don't know, this thread here indicates I'm not alone with these ad-hoc ME DLLs failing...

Super busy with meetings today so I'll try to get to this tonight.

I had this happen twice today out of nowhere (I upgraded right after it came out), and for no obvious reason that I can find. It was the surbl.dll as well. It crashed twice in a row and recovered, and has been fine since. I'll keep an eye out, maybe it was just a fluke.

Hi there,

Can you all please when such an issue happens gather "crash dumps" and then open a case with the GFI technical support and send it to them?

You can use the following link to open up a support case:
http://support.gfi.com/Support/supportrequest.aspx?lcode=en

The best is also to refer to this forum post when you open up the case. So the guys at GFI know what the problem is about.

Gathering Dumps during crashes or hangs of a particular process

Dr Watson

1. Go to Start > Run and enter “drwtsn32”

3. Make the following changes:
a. Enter a new log path "c:\crashinfo"
b. Enter a new crash dump path "c:\crashinfo"
c. Crash dump type set to “Full”
d. Enable the “Visual Notification”

4. After performing the necessary changes to Dr Watson, press OK to persist changes.

5. Go to Start > Run and enter “drwtsn32 -i” to register Dr Watson as the default debugger.

6. When a crash occurs, the visual notification will pop up. Notice that the Cancel button will change to OK button. At that point the dumps would be complete.

7. Compress the folder "c:\crashinfo" into a Zip archive and submit the data to the GFI support agent.

Hi all,

Please follow the procedure outlined by eXistenZ as I can confirm it will help us diagnose the issue. In such situations, the crash dumps are of extreme importance.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Well, I can (and will) do all that, but it doesn't exactly happen on demand. In fact it hasn't happened since.
