rrundquist -> SCHEDULER DOES NOT WORK (7.Sep.2009 7:26:46 PM)

SCHEDULER never runs automatics. ALWAYS works when start the task MANUALLY.

Have MyBackup Task2 scheduled for every 3 days to run at STARTUP (PC Startup). Have 'Reschedule Task if missed' checked ON, Have 'Start GFI at Windows Startup' ON, Have 'Start Tasks 4 mins after Windows Startup'.

Also Tried setting to a specific TIME (8:30AM) rather than checking to have run at 'Startup' on Scheduler Settings. Date & Time passed but TASK never ran when logged on at a future date (date & time was passed). Thought the passed schedule would run BUT did not.

I AM RUNNING:
Windows XP Home Edition Ver 5.1.2600 SP 3 (Build 2600)
GFI Backup 2009 Home Edition (Free Version) Ver 3.0 (Build 20090721)
DATE & TIME FORMAT is English (US)
TIME format is 9:23:52 AM
SHORT DATE format is 9/7/2009
LONG DATE is Monday, September 07, 2009

NOTE that also when scheduler is set to Run every 3 days at Startup, the 'Next Runtime' in TASKS window ALWAYS shows the current DATE (ALWAYS the current DATE logged ON) when it should be a date in the future. BUT even so when the 3 days later came & logged on that day, the missed schedule did not run as HELP file says it would when 'reschedule task if missed' is set to ON. At PC Startup + 4 mins, the missed TASK should have run. WHY DID IT NOT RUN.

Anyway no scheduling I try works. Manual always works and runs to completion. I verified backup files were created on Hard Drive. I see no error messages of any sort.

PLEASE HELP. Any other info you need from me to help find problem let me know.
THX

Hi rrundquist.

Try this. Open GFI Backup and start a new test task with the source a few files, destination local folder, default options. In the Scheduler tab set the task to run "every few days", daily (run every 1 day) at a time close to your current time. For example, if you create the test task at 15:30 PM, select the task to run at 15:35 PM. Finish the task, but don't run it (you will be asked if you want to run th task - answer no). While you are in "My Tasks" you'll see that the task should have a "Next Run Time" that should be the current day and the hour that you specified. Wait a few minutes until the task should start. If the task doesn't start look again at the "Next Run Time" and see if it was modified. If it wasn't, wait another 2-3 minutes, then close the program and open it again, then check the "Next Run Time" and see if it was modified.

Let me know what are results.

Eugen,

That worked. The task started at the future time specified. What does this prove?

Eugen -> RE: SCHEDULER DOES NOT WORK (9.Sep.2009 7:14:51 AM)

rrundquist, I just wanted to know if the program runs a scheduled task if it's started. It seems that there's a problem with the rescheduling component of the program on some Windows XP computers. We'll try to find out what exactly triggers this problem and we'll contact you soon in this topic.

Eugen,

Anything else you would like me to try, in order to collect any more data?

garyf -> RE: SCHEDULER DOES NOT WORK (9.Sep.2009 10:46:22 AM)

What about scheduler support for Windows 7 please? You said you were working on this in July. It can't be that difficult to fix can it? GFI Backups is great but useless without scheduling.

I have always used Cobian Backup but it doesn't support Volume Shadow Copy on x64 systems as it's only a 32 bit app. Then I found GFI Backup and thought it would be a perfect backup tool for Windows 7 x64.

Thank you.

Eugen -> RE: SCHEDULER DOES NOT WORK (10.Sep.2009 1:26:13 AM)

Gary, scheduler support for Windows 7 is already fixed and the build is in internal beta testing, a new version should be available very soon.

garyf -> RE: SCHEDULER DOES NOT WORK (10.Sep.2009 6:41:15 AM)

Eugen, thank you. I'm happy to help beta test if needed.

Have you considered supporting the 7z open source 'zip' format as an option? No doubt you know it supports improved compression, built-in AES encryption, and solid compression.

Thanks,
Gary.

Eugen -> RE: SCHEDULER DOES NOT WORK (11.Sep.2009 2:00:08 AM)

Hi Gary.

As far as I know, a new compression mode (7zip) was not discussed, but it's not a bad ideea. Thank you for your suggestion.

rrundquist -> RE: SCHEDULER DOES NOT WORK (11.Sep.2009 2:33:50 PM)

Eugen,

BACK TO MY PROBLEM. Garyf decided to detract somehwat. Its OK Gary....

But wanted to let you know I again the next night made sure I had my computer on before the Task time (7:03 PM) to see if GFI backup would run again. AND IT DID !!!

I then went into the Task and added a check on the 'Run Task if missed' to see if the next night It would get run after I power up my computer after 7:03PM. I waited and waited after powering up after 7:03PM until about 10 mins and NO IT DID NOT RUN (Also since it did NOT run, it did not advance the Next Run Time date -- if you remember I have it set to run evey 1 days at 7:03. I SUSPECT from this date on it will never run again as this date is not changing even if I have the computer turned on before 7:03 PM.

Does this help? Any ideas? I guess the fix for now is to ALWAYS make sure your computer is turned on when the Backup Date & Time approach. AND DON't MISS one of the scheduled times or from that point on it will never run again.

Eugen -> RE: SCHEDULER DOES NOT WORK (14.Sep.2009 1:48:19 AM)

rrundquist, your problem occurs only on some computers, normally a task that has "Reschedule if missed" checked should run as soon as possible if the computer was not turned on at the scheduled time, but on some Windows XP computers there are some settings that prevent GFI Backup from running the task when the computer is turned on. We will release a new version of GFI Backup 2009 soon. This new version should correct this problem.

Harry230 -> RE: SCHEDULER DOES NOT WORK (14.Sep.2009 5:35:17 AM)

Hi,

It also does not consistently work under Vista 64, I hope that will be fixed as well.

Please see my post "Reschedule task if missed" which remains unresolved.

thanks,

Harry..

Eugen -> RE: SCHEDULER DOES NOT WORK (14.Sep.2009 6:59:42 AM)

Hi Harry, it should fix Vista64 problems with "reschedule if missed" too, but this "reschedule if missed" problem seems to happen more on some Windows XP systems. Hopefully, we'll see this new version release very soon and you can see then if it's OK.

Harry230 -> RE: SCHEDULER DOES NOT WORK (17.Sep.2009 8:10:53 AM)

Hi Eugen,

Updated to the latest 20090915 yesterday, and still "reschedule if missed" does not work, also dates/times in task list still incorrect as per my previous posts.

regards,

Harry..
