We recently upgraded from LANguard 8 to 9. We are now having problems trying to run the GFI ReportCenter on a particular function. Under GFI LANguard, I ran a software audit across our domain which completed with no problems. However, I now run in to 2 problems.

1. When I try to save that scan (File -> Save Scan Results), GFI will lock up and crash. I have tried leaving it on overnight to see if it just took a little while for the Save box to come up, but to no avail.

2. I will run the software audit again, let it complete, and then I will go to GFI Report Center. If i try to go to Software Audit and try to generate a report for "The Last Scan", it gets to the point of saying "Get sub report records from database..." then an error pop-up box appears saying "Failed to get recordset for sub report".

Are you using SQL or MS Access for the database backend? How large has the database become?

we are using a SQL 2005 backend. the database for LNSSScanResults.mdf is 206mb.

I'm going to see if its a problem with the type of scan I did. I am going to run a "FULL" scan on my machine and see if i still get the same error for the software audit when i try to run a report.

KAC_PRES,

Just out of curiosity try changing the name in the database backend settings in GFI to a space after the server name then delete the space. This will give you the option to reconnect to the database. When you reconnect to the database do you get any errors?

We encountered several problems with LANguard and after many ongoing and lengthy support calls with different issues Gill mentioned that a lot of our problems linked back to an issue we encountered when connecting to the database. It would always say "Database structure is incorrect would you like to delete the database and recreate?". We would always ignore this and allow it to connect but then suffer many abnormal issues. Gill (one of GFI's phone support techs) mentioned this is an error relating to a problem updating the database structure after an upgrade from LANguard 8 to 9. We ended up deleting the database and loosing all of our scan data but it resolved a lot of strange quarks we ran into for months.

If you don't get any messages after reconnecting to the database with a space in it I'd just ignore my post but if you do get that error or any other I'd start a ticket with GFI to see if they can help you resolve your issue without having to resort to the drastic measures we had to by deleting and recreating the database.

Thanks,

Mark

well perhaps it was the type of scan i ran. after completing a "Full Scan" on my machine, i went to the GFI Report Center, Software Audit, Run for Last Scan, and it worked with no problems. Perhaps I just have to run a 'Full Scan" to get the Software Audit component to work and not just running the "Software Audit" component on LANguard
