Hi everyone, I've got a question. Since we switched from WM4 to WM2009 build 20090403, we are experiencing a lot of connection timeouts with error code 10060. We never had this problem before we switched to the WM2009. Are other people experiencing this problem as well or is this something only we experience? The setup we are using is as follows: Windows Server 2003 standard edition with SP1 (running on a Virtual Machine on VMWare ESX 3.5) with 4GB of RAM allocated and 2 vCPU's MS ISA server 2004 standard edtion version 4.0.2167.887 GFI Webmonitor 2009 build 20090403 This is server is only used as a proxyserver. If I bypass the proxy (and thus GFI webmonitor) I have no problems. I am using the same DNS servers and the default gateway is a ISA2006 server which in term connects to a hardware firewall (I know, it little to much layers, but if I bypass the proxy all the sites are reached normally). The eventlogs on the server don't give any reason why it happens. Anybody any ideas? The problem is intermittent, not really reproducable and it happens to all sites, including ones that are whitelisted.

Does it occur more during the morning, evenings, or peak network usage times? Is there any other scheduled tasks that run (like network audits, backup, AV Scans) that could be occurring on the network as well?

Drew, It happens intermittently during the day. There is no specific time frame. Also, it can run well for an hour and all of sudden it will give problems. I've checked the connection, network traffic, etc, but there is no peak usage when it happens.There are no scheduled tasks being run, AV is set to ignore the entire GFI directory and a backup does happen sometime during the day, but that has no real impact on the server. I checked all those things before I posted the message. I have tried restarting the services and even the entire server, but the problem will return within 30 minutes.

Drew, Just to be sure. Can it be that the problem is caused by the fact that there is no cache drive configured? This was done because we had some problems with the webgrade database. All of a sudden it would not initialize. After consulting with GFI support, they advised us to lower the size of the cache drive or turn it of completely (they also advised adding more RAM and a extra CPU, which we did). I turned it off. Let me know if this might cause the issue.

Yes, it could be an odd side-effect related to this cache setting. Perhaps enabling it to a lower value instead of simply turning it off may help? Beyond this, we would need to investigate the log files by having you open a support case so we could give you a better answer.

I will try setting up a small cache disk. I also did some research and found article KB191143. I implemented the registry key mentioned in the article, but that didn't do it. I will also update the server to the latest service packs and updates and update WM2009 to the latest build. I will post back here with the results.

Well, I am not going to jump to conclusions just yet (still seeing some connection timeouts in the ISA logging), but it would seem that patching up the system to the latest Windows servicepacks and updates and installing the latest build version of WM2009 has helped. Currently I do not hear from people that they run into the dreaded brown "10060 connection timed out" page. Hope this works out [sm=s231.gif].

Well, as it turns out, a dodgy primary DNS server could cause this problem as well. I added a few connectivity verifiers to the DNS servers and the gateway. And what do know? The primary DNS server is causing connection problems. For the normal day to day traffic no problem, but apparently ISA didn't like it. I switched the primary and secondary DNS around and gone are the connection timeout problems. Now to look at that pesky DNS server, if only it wasn't one of the domain controllers.... [:@]
