ict -> Emails with Office 2007 attachments missing ** FIXED ** (26.Jun.2009 12:17:34 AM)

This is an FYI, I have an outstanding ticket for something, but during the support process it was discovered that GFI mail security was not processing Office 2007 attachments correctly and they were getting stuck in

*\Program Files\GFI\ContentSecurity\MailSecurity\MiddleQueue

This started happening since latest build
Version: 10.0
Build: 20090526

this explains why some users were complaining of lost incoming and outgoing email???

To get the email re processed, I opened the *.rdt file in a text editor and changed:

Content-Type: application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document
to
Content-Type: application/msword

in this example it is a word attachment. (powerpoint = vnd.ms-powerpoint)

Save the file with a *.txt extension and drop into my mail Pickup folder.

it then gets Quarantined as *.docx zip attachment that I can release.

I have been told a patch is on the way to fix, but you should look in this folder yourself.
I had about 200 non processed items?

Regards

ict,

thanks for letting us know.

ict,

Do keep us posted and thanks for the heads-up.

I have a client that is experiencing the same problem, however the emails do not get stuck within the MiddleQueue folder but are instantly failing and ending up in the FailedMails folder.

Incidentally, the Realtime Monitor records the event as "Item critically failed to be processed" without any further information to determine why this is happening.

ICT,

I don't suppose you've had any luck with this since your last post? Have GFI been responsive to the fault?

I am still waiting, it is supposed to be fixed with the next release, to quote GFI

"This issue will be solved when MailSecurity 10 SR10 will be released. This is scheduled for this month and will notify you as soon as it is released. "

This is from June 19th.

So everyday I have to check the MiddleQueue folder, edit the files and resend, bit of a pain.

The other issue that is meant to be fixed with this release is that if I do a 'Delete & Notify' from Quarantine, when the user gets the email it does not contain the threat report, so thay have no idea why it was deleted, I work in a school so use this feature a lot.

GFI any news on this release?

regards

Count me in as having this same problem. After reading the thread I went and looked in the MiddleQueue folder and sure enough, had 3 e-mails sitting there. Edited the Content-Type as per ict's instructions, saved as TXT and dropped them in the pickup folder and they went through fine. Seems to have happened after the latest build, as the files were recent and after we installed that.

Very frustrating.

Still having to check this folder everyday, edit the files and resend.

I emailed GFI about the next release to fix this, reply was

Expected is beginning of August.
Still to wait unfortunatelly...

Still happening here as well, very frustrating.

ict -> RE: Emails with Office 2007 attachments missing (17.Aug.2009 6:22:03 PM)

Come on GFI, when is the new build going to be available to fix this issue???

Popolou -> RE: Emails with Office 2007 attachments missing (18.Aug.2009 3:21:40 AM)

Indeed, however my client has decided to jump ship to an alternative product due to lack of progress on the matter. Nonetheless, i would be keen to see what they come up with.

Chop chop GFI.

I can confirm that two issues I had have been fixed with the latest release (20090819),

1. Email with Office 2007 attachments now appear to flow through without problems
2. When I delete and notify, the user gets a threat report within the notification(i.e. a reason why I deleted their email)

Whats strange is that there is no information about the new build where it should be "Version and Build Information" nor did I recieve anything from GFI, is this a secret release???,

I only found it by reading another forum issue
http://forums.gfi.com/Item_critically_failed_to_be_processed/m_900780565/tm.htm
where Ben Vincenti instructs the user to try downloading the new version

Hi ict

No, this is not a secret release, it's just a matter of a few moments until all the information is available online.

The KB article pertaining to this release (build 20090819) is available here:
http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID003627

More information will be coming online shortly.

Best regards,
