I'm trying to install NSM on Server 2008 R2.  The installer has a manual check for the .net 1.1 framework.  Server 2008 R2 ships with .net Framework 3.5.1.  Microsoft says here that "Applications written using the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 will continue to work on Windows Server 2008. "

How do I bypass the hard check in the installer for the 1.1 framework?

We are now beyond the end of the lifecycle for that version of the .net framework (see here).

You could bypass the check for the .net framework 1.1, but that will cause some problems for the installation and the NSM services won’t be installed. I would suggest installing the .net framework 1.1 even if it is tagged as deprecated on Windows Server 2008.

According to the microsoft reference above, using 3.5.1 instead of 1.1 should cause no problems at all.

Yes I know this, but as I said before the installation kit has some dependency strictly related to the .net framework 1.1. Without it the NSM services cannot be installed, and the NSM user interface will run with limited functionality.

Just install the 1.1 framework. I had to do this for our 2008 web server as our web team hasn't yet updated our code to .net 2.0+.

These steps have worked for most of our users: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/472/how-to-install-aspnet-11-with-iis7-on-vista-and-windows-2008/
