Latest build of GFI MailEssentials:- Build 20091106

owenb -> GFI MailEssentials 14 Build 20080915 (15.Apr.2009 4:16:21 AM)

This is the release build of GFI MailEssentials 14. New features within this release include:

  • SpamRazer engine. A new OEM anti-spam engine has been added to the GFI MailEssentials spam filters to further improve spam capture rate & ability to block new trends of spam.
  • Quick Look Dashboard.  A new dashboard application has been added to GFI MailEssentials, which provides improved processing logs & visual indicators of email processing and spam capture.
  • Directory Harvesting running in SMTP protocol sink. Directory Harvesting can now be set to run at SMTP procotol level, allowing blocking of spam before its content is downloaded.
  • Spam Email Digest. A daily\weekly\monthly report can be sent by email to administrators and individual recipients which would include a summary of spam received.
  • Support for 64bit IIS. GFI MailEssentials 14 now supports deploying on IIS in both Windows 2003 x64 and Windows 2008 x64.
  • Added Log Occurrence action for Whitelist
  • Improved speed of loading of Custom Blacklist configuration
  • Fixed access violation which can occur during logging to reporting database
  • Fixed issue in identification of inbound domains
  • Fixed issue in which email containing '@' in display name would not be delivered through POP2Exchange.

    Release Notes

    By default, the new SpamRazer engine runs with higher priority than other spam filters, and the default action which it performs when an email is blocked is tagging. If this action is not modifed, all spam blocked by SpamRazer is tagged and is still delivered to the recipient mailbox. It is suggested to amend the SpamRazer action depending on requirements as soon as the GFI MailEssentials 14 installation is complete.

    Known Issues

    Dashboard occasionally fails to load some of the email processing logs \ graphs. Closing\re-opening the dashboard or restarting the GFI MailEssentials Managed Attendant service fixes this problem.
    Updated user manual is not yet available in German. This will be made available in the first GFI MailEssentials 14 service release.
    The Recipient Digest option named "List of blocked spam” is documented in the manual but is not yet implemented in the product.
    The Spam Digest functionality for recipients will also send the spam digest to non-existing email addresses blocked by Directory Harvesting. It is suggested to make use of the "Only users listed below…” option in the "Recipients List” tab until a fix is released for this issue.

owenb -> GFI MailEssentials 14.1 SR1 build 20091027 (11.Nov.2009 2:40:23 AM)

GFI MailEssentials 14.1 Service Release 1 (build 20091027) has been released and is available for download.
Changes within this release include:
  • FIXED: Emails get stuck in the SMTP queue after being processed by GFI MailEssentials.
  • FIXED: Emails looping between GFI MailSecurity and GFI MailEssentials when forward to email action is used in GFI MailEssentials.
  • FIXED: Reduction in spam capture by SpamRazer, caused by failed execution of certain DNS based checks performed by the engine.
  • FIXED: Crash of Synch agent service when a port other than the default port is used.
  • FIXED: Crash of SURBL module caused by emails containing URI which is longer than 2048 characters.
  • FIXED: Dot stuffing performed whilst processing of emails can corrupt attachments.
  • FIXED: Emails downloaded through POP2Exchange are not being delivered to recipients. This happens due to an issue in the handling of From\To header entries containing text in () brackets.
  • FIXED: If selecting only Move to Inbox and Block Reason actions for any anti-spam filter, the block reason is not added to the blocked email.
  • FIXED: Directory Harvesting at SMTP level does not block emails containing at least 1 remote recipient (recipient whose domain is not listed in the GFI MailEssentials inbound domains list). Due to this issue, GFI MailEssentials doesn't block certain casino related spam emails.
  • FIXED: Crash caused in Whitelist, Blacklist and Mail Monitoring modules when processing emails whose recipients contain multiple empty spaces in From\To header.
  • FIXED: A minor memory leak affecting the GFI MailEssentials Scan Engine service which is caused by the module which routes emails to list server (even when list server is not used).
  • FIXED: The detection of perimeter servers which is performed during installation fails, causing the perimeter server option to be set but having list of perimeters not populated.
  • FIXED: If multiple perimeter servers are identified and the local server's IP is one of the IP addresses, it is not included in the perimeter servers list.
  • FIXED: Disclaimers\General Settings user selection button not displaying user selection dialog.
  • FIXED: On Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, the disclaimer Sender Name value would be set using the Sender Email instead.
  • FIXED: Downloading of SpamRazer updates fails.
  • FIXED: Save to disk action does not remove characters which cannot be written as part of the filename, causing action to fail.
  • FIXED: Error reported when enabling\disabling tracing in Switchboard.
  • FIXED: Updated the Send Fake NDR action so as to support entering a different postmaster email address. This issue resulted from the change which was made in GFI MailEssentials 14.1, in which the use of the template ndr.xml has been replaced with email subject and body XSL templates. The KB article which describes how to set the postmaster email of the fake NDR has been updated to explain how this can be set in GFI MailEssentials 14.1:

owenb -> GFI MailEssentials 14.1 SR2 build 20091106 (11.Nov.2009 2:41:27 AM)

Changes within this release include:
  • FIXED: Resolving of perimeter server MX IP addresses fails if domain MX points to a CNAME record. On 32bit systems, this causes the installation to hang during the Welcome screen. On Microsoft Exchange 2007, this issue affects the post install wizard.
  • FIXED: When installing on Microsoft Exchange 2007, the installation copies certain files required by the post install wizard to the default GFI MailEssentials folder instead of the selected folder, causing the post install wizard to fail.
