Greetings-

I would like to know if this is possible and if it is, how to actually accomplish it.

We have about 500 users that are not very saavy - and they are not able to create a rule in Outlook to dump their tagged spam directly into their junk folder... though we have tried and tried to get them to do this.

SPAM messages (correctly tagged) are showing up in their inbox and they are complaining that they are getting.. well, spam. They refuse to follow instructions on how to create a rule to move it to the junk folder.

Is it possible to add an X- header when a message gets tagged as spam in such a way that a default configuration of Outlook would automatically route the message into the junk folder?

We are currently testing MailEssentials 14.

Thank you.

If you're using a tag in the subject, such as [SPAM], then use rulemgmt.exe to add a rule to every mailbox.

Put [SPAM] in the rule conditon box and (without quotes) "Junk E-Mail" in the rule action box.

You will need to ensure that junk filtering is enabled. The easiest way to do this is to use Cached Mode on Outlook. Otherwise, you'll need to locate a script (there are one or two out there on the internet), or access each mailbox by OWA...Ugh!

You'll also need to make sure you run this every time you add a user.

If you use multiple tags, then you'll have to choose a common stem. Example: [SPAM-Bayesian] and [SPAM-SPF], use "[SPAM-" in the condition box.

Hope this helps. There is a KB article on this somewhere

Unfortunately, as it says in the original post - the users are unable/unwilling to take the 30 seconds to create the rule.

I was hoping for a header solution because while the client is Outlook, the server is not Exchange... so for a rule to work it has to be client-side.

If anyone else has any thoughts on how to do it with a header - I'd love to hear it.

Thanks for any thoughts.

No, this is a server-side solution.
