SMS Queue?

Do you know if there is such as a thing as a SMS queue. Basically we operate a SMS alert system on all our systems using an external SMS device. Due to a power failure this device hasn't been on for a good few weeks.

In those few weeks we have had a lot of alerts and problems that have been recieved on email but not SMS. Now that I am able to plug the SMS device back in properly will I  suddenly get a big surge of all the SMS messages that attempted? or because the device wasn't there will it have just binned them?!?

Any ideas?
