All,

Recently my job mandated that all computers needed to have adobe 8.13 or greater. Is there a way to update common non Microsoft applications without having to deploy custom software like an MSI package?

Note that you need to renew your license for both products with Adobe every year. It's free, so there's no reason not to do so.

Hi,

Using LANGaurd's "Deploy Custom Software" I used the following switches which provided a silent remote install of the upgrade with no user intervention, it worked pretty nicely.

/sAll /rs /l /msi"/qb-! /norestart ALLUSERS=1 EULA_ACCEPT=YES SUPPRESS_APP_LAUNCH=YES"

Install Strings

Adobe Reader.exe /sAll
Java.exe /qn
Quicktime.exe /qn
Flash uninstall.exe /s (there is one for mozilla and IE)
Flash.exe /s
Firefox.exe -ms
Thunderbird.exe -ms

Unistall batch files

"\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall\helper.exe" /S
"\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\uninstall\helper.exe" /S

Also installing applications using LANguard is quite simple. Major applications such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, McAfee and more come with their own service tools called "configuration wizards". Once you have the configuration wizard for your product installed on you system, you can then configure it to auto insert things such as the serial number or other items. After you are done using it, you simply bundle all these files into a single folder using an extractor program such as Winzip Self Extractor. Next you simply push it out using LANguard as a .exe single file with no parameters and you are done.

With LANguard 9, you should be able to uninstall older apps that you are not using.
