ORIGINAL: John Letourneau For the users having this problem: 1. Is GFI MailArchiver or SQL running on a physical machine or virtual machine? 2. If everything is on a physical machine are virtual environments or virtualization software running on the same machine? 3. If so, which software is installed? 4. Which OS and Service Pack is being used? If you all could let me know this I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks. GFI MailArchiver 6 is running on a Virtual Machine using Hyper-v with a Firebird DB. It is installed on the same virtual machine running Windows 2003 R2 32x SP2 as with Exchange. However, the data stores are seperated out and running of a Virtual iSCSI Storage SAN. The virtual machine has no other roles.

We have MailArchiver 6 and Exchange 2003 running on a VM with Server 2003 SP2. SQL Server 2000 SP4 is running on another VM with Server 2003 SP2.

Thanks for all of your help. We've been able to identify the cause of this error and should have a patch available for this next week. As soon as it is available I'll make sure to update this thread.

Hi all, A small update on the problem described in this thread, where the following errors are seen in the Event Logs and / or are sent as notifications to the Administrator: - Failed to connect to an IPC Port: The system cannot find the file specified.
- Port is Busy: All pipe instances are busy.
What is happening in this case is that GFI MailArchiver is encountering a situation when performing certain inter-process communication. The errors are logged and notifications are sent, after which the product does recover from the particular condition. Therefore the functionality of GFI MailArchiver is not affected in any way. Having said this, we are in the process of addressing the problem. As per John's post, we are expecting to release a patch by the end of next week. The patch will be included in subsequent service releases and new versions. Thank you for your contribution.

We had a support case opened for this and got the patch on Friday. It fixed the errors but it also stopped mail archiving completely and users could no longer have emails sent to their inbox from the archiver. I've notified support via my case and I backed out the change and the new problems went away. I sent them troubleshooter files with their patch applied.

For the users that have had bad experiences with the patch - please make sure that you are running at least GFI MailArchiver 6 SR2.
