When trying to enable microsoft exchange server synchronization I get the following error: Failed to Connect to Microsoft Exchange Server" The Login account used have full access on the exchange server. Even tried the enterprise account but the results is the same. It is a new installation and I can add that the archiving is working. Its just the sync I can't figure out. Any help will realy be appreciated.

Hi FrikkieD2, in order to enable and configure 'user mailbox synchronisation' you need to create an account in AD and give it full access to the Exchange Store. You can follow the steps in the 'Installing Outlook Connector on Active Directory' or 'Installing Outlook Connector in a non-AD environment' Quick Start Guide. This is provided with the GFI MailArchiver installation or you can download it from http://www.gfi.com/mar/6/quickstarts/. Thanks for choosing GFI MailArchiver. Kind regards, Joseph D'Emanuele GFI Software Ltd.

Hi Josephd Maybe a stupid question, but when using a domain admin or enterprise admin account (both have full access rights on the exchange) I get the error.

I'm having the same issue. By any chance, are you running mail archive on a server other than your exchange server? I connect to a 'remote' exchange, and I suspect that this is the issue

I had the same issue with it not accepting logins from a "remote" server. It seems to not work for the default admin accounts. I was able to create a new user and grant full access to the exchange server. Then the mailbox access test came back as a success. However I only see Inbox and Sent Items folders. This is a new install so I'm not sure why the other folders are not syncing.

Did you need to give the new user any particular access to your exchange server? I just tried one and came back with the same error as before.

K - I solved my problem: GFI's login is case sensitive for the username.

After much frustration I re-read the help file and found: 2. The same user must be granted executable rights on the machine on which GFI MailArchiver is installed. This is required because the user mailbox synchronization agent accessing the mailboxes, runs on the same machine on which GFI MailArchiver is installed. I made the user I created earlier an admin on the Mail Archiver box and now everything is working.

Where is the local policy held.. or is it even possible?

as long as the user can physically log into the machine then the Exchange Synchronization will work

the journalling user is different from the User Mailbox Synchronization User The journalling will connect to the journalling mailbox and download the emails (like it used to in MailArchiver5) the User Mailbox Synchronization User will access each mailbox and this user needs to have execution rights on the Machine (the DC in your case). You enter such a user from the User Mailbox Synchronization Settings

Well.. now I am really confused.. In the quick-start, you show "journal" as being the user created.. but then in the next step you show a different user being added to the sync.. but you don't specify the creation of that user.. you specify the creation of the journal user. If more specific users need to be created.. and multiple users at that.. then that should be made allot more clear.. The "journal" user has been covered very well in the manuals.. as it is clearly stated that it is required.. and where to make changes.. the rest seems to be guess work as to how to get the users to have access or not or execution privileges etc.. You need to give more detail on these various users and what they are needed for.. how to create them, where to give them, and how to give them access rights.. including on machines that might be DC's I am loving the product, because it does what I want at a very affordable price.. the setup starts very easily, but gets hard very quickly.
