Fax to folder problem - 30.Jul.2008 8:35:27 AM

I have a client that needs all faxes sent to a particular DID to dump in to a separate folder. No problem, right? So I set up Backup2Folder on the route in question.

Here's where it gets tricky: since faxes to that number get very lengthy, they don't want those faxes bogging down their email/SMTP server. And that is what I haven't been able to accomplish as I am not able to remove the catch-all users, nor am I able to set up a user without an email address.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

dew.man,

You do not need to rout the DID in question to any user.  You can simply just backup to a folder as the routing for that DID.

And therein lies the problem in that we need to keep that type of message traffic off the email server!

Dew.man,

What I am suggesting would keep the mail traffic off the server.  If your routing is working correctly then you will not get any email for faxes called to the "backup folder" DID number.

I guess I just don't follow.

On the routing screen in Faxmaker 12, you select a user to receive the fax. If you do not select a user there, it will fall through to the catch-all user.

To create a user, you must specify an email address, and all faxes for that user are routed via email to that address.

What am I missing?

I understand your problem and have the same issue, but in my case, I want my faxes to print rather than end up in a folder, but I don't want them going forward to a mailbox (not even the catch all.)

I guess 'routing' to GFI means going to a user, not being printed or stored in a folder.

Dew.man.

If routing works correctly it should not rout to the Default router.  It should only go to the folder.  Is the folder you are trying to rout to on the local machine?

ab1456,

This should also not happen. When you rout to a printer are you using the routing feature and not under lines and devices?  Also if it does print out does it then also send to the default router, or only when it fails?

Under DID routing, when I click on New, I get a pop-up that prompts for the DID number. Once I specify that, it takes me to the Properties pop-up which allows me to select a User. All users must have an email address. If I do not select a user here, my catch-all user receives all faxes that come in to this number.

To route to a folder, the only option I have (that I know of), is the Backup2Folder tab under Properties. As the name implies, this is secondary/backup routing, and does not take place of the user routing.

I am sorry if we are not communicating clearly, but I simply do not see how I can route to a folder without an email recipient also getting the fax!

OK I would like to do some testing here.  Also in the mean time can you tell me which version of Faxmaker and what build you are running?
