MuadDib -> Upgrading from Exchange 2003 to 2007 (2.Jul.2008 7:49:53 PM)

Hello.

Im in the process of transitioning to Exchange 2007 from Exchange 2003.

I found this article on how to Move MailEssentials from 32-bit Windows (Current Exchange 2003 SP2 Machine) to 64-bit Windows (New Exchange 2007 SP1 machine).

I was wondering if there was a similar procedure for MailSecurity, or if i would just follow the documentation on how to move it from one server to another (even though they are different architectures).

Thanks for your time.

Since there has been no reply (and i have to get this done quickly), i went ahead and tried to do what i wanted by following the method of moving MailSecurity from one machine to another as outlined in the link below:

http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID002942

Everything went pretty well, but when i look at the "Bindings" tab under "Settings" it says:

Binding instance will be reset to the selected server because of an Error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time.

I would go ahead and ignore this message and check for general functionality instead.

The bindings tab tells you on which virtual SMTP Server MailSecurity was working. SInce there are no longer virtual smtp servers in Exchange 2007, I guess that the interface of the 64-bit version can not interpret the information in the configuration file that was carried over from exchange 2003

MuadDib,

If you go to the GFI MailSecurity Realtime Monitor do you see messages flowing through this screen?

I did realize that for whatever reason mails were not able to be sent or received from my new mail server. For the longest time (most of this weekend) i thought it was because of my transition to exchange 2007. After ALOT of troubleshooting i found the root of the problem was my install of MailSecurity.
At this point i made the decision to uninstall MailSecurity, and my mail flow problems went away. After i thought about it more, there really was no reason to try to also transistion MailSecurity as all of the configuration that i did on my old mail server can be replicated on my new server within a few minutes.
Given the information above, i went ahead and made a copy if the MailSecurity folder, and deleted the associated registry entry. I then did a fresh clean install of MailSecurity, and configured it similar to the old exchange server (took maybe 5 minutes max). Now everything is working great!

In Conclusion, if anybody is considering the transition, its probably just as easy to do a clean install of MailSecurity on the new Exchange box, and just reconfigure it similar to the old exchange box.

Thanks everyone for your help.
