marcopolo -> Issue with Importation of Historical PSTs (25.Jun.2008 11:05:53 AM)

We are about to start using GFI for archiving of emails and have come across an issue.
If I attempt to import a PST which is from an ex-employee (and therefore the user is no longer on Active Directory), the "From" name is missing and shows only an _ (underscore character) instead of the ex-user's name.

This means that a search fails if you ask to view emails that were from that ex-employee.
For test purposes, I recreated another ex-employee in Active Directory, performed an import of their PST file and it did save correctly and was searchable.

Is there a way whereby these historical PST files can be imported and searched correctly without temporarily recreating Active Directory accounts during the import (I would have to create about a hundred of them !!) - also does this create any licencing issues?

marcopolo,

Importing the historical PST files will not create any licensing issues for you.  When you create the users the user will use the license while the data is being imported but after that user is removed this will not be an issue.

In order to search the messages properly I would recommend creating the AD user and importing the messages.

Hi John,
Many thanks for your response. I'll create all the AD accounts using the evaluation key to get around the limitation and then put our 200 user key on after the import is complete and the accounts are removed.

Kind regards
marcopolo

marcopolo,

That will work perfectly for you.
